Many interesting comments/statements/observations on this thread.
It seems to me that two well known phrases summarize the sentiments expressed in them.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and
    "Ignorance is bliss".
In the context of the posed question, and many of the answers given, "bliss" can be defined as "a sentiment presented to deflect from the personal experiences/ deficiencies/ inherent criticisms that have been bestowed on the critic themselves".
The ignorance aspect is self explanatory.

It has certainly been on a few times. The most used surprisingly enough is the Kcom stadium, which will then often stimulate a discussion about the mighty Tigers.....

Why is it, was it considered trendy/cool/fashionable/etc to be from Merseyside or Tyneside but the devil at work if you came from or referred to yourself as being from Humberside ?

Liverpool had The Beatles obviously. I didn't know Tyneside was thought cool, I suppose Ant and Dec are from there so as they have made it more popular.

Our biggest mistake is not using the Kingston prefix. it would make us sound sooooooooo upmarket and poncey. But ****em all, we're Ull and I'd rather live here then anywhere else,

( For complete accuracy I do actually reside in leafy Cottingham but grew up on Goddard Ave)

It's all relative but when I was growing up Goddard Ave was thought to be posh, especially Chants Ave end. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Agreed! Also hope they put back the Kingston upon Hull signs with the three.crowns on the major roads into the city. Wouldn't mind an additional board below stating City of Culture 2017.

A combo of high profile at football, chart music acts and proximity to local broadcaster.

Newcastle had the group Geordie in the 70s, and Tyne Tees had its HQ there, and NUFC got to the Cup Final in 74.

Liverpool has always punched way above its weight in showbiz and music (they never let a lack of talent affect their natural cockiness) and LFC were really the first club to attract a national glory-hunter following.

We got the ****ty end of the stick TV wise with BBC Leeds and YTV both more than happy to focus on the vermin.

Off the top, can't think of a time I've heard a proper Scouser slagging off their own city - which has a massive impact.

We still hear too much of it here.

Always amazes and irks me, that. "If you don't like it ****in move then"

Slight deviation of thread, I read that Geoff 'King Tyke from Ponteh' Boycott is a big MUFC fan, his rationale being he demands success and makes no bones about it.

Of course, he may now have to to wrestle with the dilemma of many a glory hunter, namely: when the trophies dry up, do I stick or twist?

    Over to you, Boyks...

We had the bloke on the Basil Brush show Roy or Rob something. He often wore a city scarf.
