So Levy is missing a trick, or do Sonny, Lamela and Kane have 2.5, 2.5 and 5.0 stadiums buy-out clauses respectively in their new contracts?

I bet these alleged Madrid release clauses are actually
    "restraint of trade" .

For example, Messi allegedly has his set at 250m Euros.
For the brilliance he has had during his reign, that is arguably a
fair valuation of his worth. Similarly, some clubs (with a
suitable payment schedule) could actually afford that fee.

Modric crudely speaking is not 3 times better than Messi, and
I doubt any club could EVER afford 750m (based on typical
    payment schedules used) .

So getting back to it ...

Where was the 1bn comprised of, that Juventus used to show
they they could meet the CR7 release clause ??

All a release clause means is that if a buying club matches it, the selling club can’t reject the offer, hence why most sides make inflated clauses. If a buying club offers a fee below a release clause, the selling club then decides if they choose to accept or not. That’s why juve got Ronaldo for £100m, Real decided to accept it. If Juve for instance offered the £1bn, Real wouldn’t have had a choice in the matter.

So Steve Bruce has confirmed that Spurs offer for Grealish is nowhere near their valuation.

Good, at least we have made a bid. And unless they raise some cash from the footballing side of things they will fall foul of the FFP rules. Levy is on the move.

    http://worldsoccertalk.com/2017/08/02/how-do-spanish-football-buyout-clauses-work

So they accepted 10% of the value of the release clause
for a far superior player, and Perez is saying he will enforce
the lesser release clause for the lesser player ??

    Blood in the water methinks.
IMHO someone "serious" has made enquires on Modric, and
    Perez has gone wibble.

I'm guessing Levy has offered them 3 quid plus add-ons (if Spurs win 3 consecutive CL's).

They accepted what they felt was a good offer, still made a profit on him after 9 years at the club and numerous goals/ trophies. The release clause is only there because a) they’re mandatory in La Liga and b) they’re inflated to ensure that if they don’t want to sell a player, they won’t have too unless an insane bid is made. Ronaldo leaving was also on the cards after his comments at the end of the CL final so I think Real were willing to let him go providing a good offer came in.

As for Modric, it does look like Inter want him but Madrid obviously don’t wanna sell another key player. Hence the comments about how Perez won’t accept a penny less than the release clause.

Regardless of however you feel about Grealish and Zaha i think we can all agree that we'll be PISSED if Chelsea get them both. Yes?

i'm really confused about why this is even a debate.

Thought release clauses were a pretty straight forward concept.

I'm actually really surprised because although i don't always agree with RDBDs arguments, he normally fights his corner very well and with intelligence and it's mainly just a difference in opinion why we don't agree.

Why, they will never play for you, they will just go out on loan somewhere to stop your rivals getting them. It wouldn't surprise me if they let Villa keep Grealish for a season or two just to piss Spurs off.

Nail on the head. They won't play (well zaha might but probably not). I don't rate them too highly either so thats more money wasted ala bakayoko, drinkwater, barkley.

Didn't think about the pissing you boys off though, i guess i could take solace in that

I’ll be pissed if you get Grealish.

Although saying that, I very much doubt he’d join you. Wumming aside (I know... it’s rare), it’d be a terrible move for him footballing wise. He’d only have to look at Barkley/ Drinkwater to see that, not forgetting he’d have to somehow get in above Kante, Jorginho and Fabregas in that CM.

His only challenge for spots in CM with us would be an out of soughts Dembele (if he’s still here), a Winks who’s yet to progress (and seemingly injury prone) and Sissoko...

Did Barkley go on loan to Vitesse (or wherever it is Chelsea send their players) or did he just rot in the reserves last year?

I would say if Sarri wanted him, he'd play as sarri is possession based technical footie. If its whoever is in charge of transfer who wants him it might be hard.

I think Fabregas days are over but yes there are a lot of midfielders for him to go up against as well as all the youth we loan out.

If i was him i wouldn't touch us either as he wouldn't get in above Kante or Jorginho so his only position would be at ten or the wings (which he wouldn't get).

No we did the stupid thing and bought him when he was injured. Think he was only fit for a third of our games (he joined in jan)

Did he ever get on the pitch?
I've always thought the lad had massive talent and i had big hopes for him to be an integral part of the England team, but he seems to have made some bad choices (pissing off Everton manager for example), been unlucky with injuries and i fear that joining Chelsea was another bad decision as he has so much competition and there seems to be little patience with players.

    Not a "debate" . Nor a "fight" .
A DISCUSSION on why Perez has gone wibble in public
about Modrics' alleged release clause value, and the reality
of the values (however exorbitant they are) .

It may not have been such a bad choice. If one has a career threatening injury that is going to re-occur numerous times if one continues playing, Chavski is the place to go, they never ask most of their signings to play. One could extend ones career by at least 5 years.

Would he go to chelsea? Wouldn't he be better off at Villa for another season and see what happens then?

Zaha's a bit older but Chelseas's a total gamble right now. Sarri has no idea what he's got at the club or what he needs. They've sold nobody. Buying a wide forward is a bit bonkers given their strikers aren't in any sort of form and full backs aren't great.

    Lol, yeah i guess.
I was talking about actual playing career, but if that is indeed the case then him and his agent are geniuses
