R's head to Deepdale for opener

QUEENS PARK RANGERS and Steve McClaren’s first test of the season will be against Preston North End as the R’s head up north to Deepdale.

Rangers have enjoyed a good pre-season and picked up some morale-boosting results along the way but Saturday is where the real business starts.

Deepdale has not been a happy hunting ground for Rangers in recent years, with our last away victory against the Lilywhites over 38 years ago.

Our form away from Loftus Road is something that will have to be improved on this campaign. The R’s won just three away games all season last year and is something the players have alluded to fixing.

Preston, who finished just two points off the play-off positions last year, have not changed the key personnel of their squad too much for this season.

They lost full-back Gregory Cunningham to Cardiff but have kept all their other regular first-teamers. Alex Neil has brought in five new players including Graham Burke who scored 13 goals from nine games in the League of Ireland this year.

They’ve enjoyed a solid pre-season campaign, which has included a draw against Preston and most recently a 3-0 victory over Oldham Athletic.

Summers of these two teams can be summarised by looking at the transfer action that has already taken place;

We have seen a few key players leave Loftus Road, and with a transfer embargo now in place for January after the FFP result, I'm hoping there may still be space for one or two players still to come in before the window shuts, for us until the end of the season. I fear that we could have a long season ahead, and here's hoping that the younger players have come on leaps and bounds and are able to fill the gaps left by more experienced players. With the finances sorted, lets hope this year can now just be about football, and the players giving 100% and Steve Mclaren showing some tactical wisdom that makes us enjoyable to watch. We live in hope. COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPS!!!!

I have us down for a 1 - 1 draw but just not sure who our scorer will be. A draw will ease our way into the season which l’m ok with.
However, in saying that, if we win, l’ll be as happy as a pig in sh!t.

Really can’t see us getting anything up there as it’s one of those places we always seem to lose 1-0, so any result that gets us points will be a bonus.
Feel a bit disjointed from it all this year as I didn’t renew my ST due to work commitments.....feels strange :(

Looking at the away games apart from 2 games in London and 3 along the M4 corridor every other away day is North of Watford. The Championship is becoming dominated by teams from the Midlands and North of England...….

Anyway getting excited, I know, I know, always ends in disappointment, but we have some good young talent that could light this division up this season.

C'mon U R's
