Football fans being football fans I was pretty content and quietly optimistic when we signed him, but can't pretend to have been buzzing or expecting the return he had last season. I don't think anyone did.. Though there were inevitably those who assumed signing a player from Rangers showed a lack of ambition He is a terrific athlete with an incredible attitude and work ethic... But on top of that his technical ability is far better than most people realise, he certainly would add something to any side in this league. He's not played the last 2 or 3 pre season friendlies (which have supposedly been our best performances) and suggestions are that he doesn't fit into Hurst's system as well as some of the squad. Ellis Harrison looks a decent signing from Bristol Rovers up top and we're apparently about to confirm the signing of Jon Nolan from Shrews, who plays behind the striker, so if we get offered somewhere close to £8m I think we'll snap it up and comfortably strengthen the rest of the squad
Yes, I am and have supported 'the Dons' for the last 50+ years, when some geezer called Alex Ferguson was their manager, but I'm also a realist. Edit 1-1 at half time!!
Didn't he get a stand at the Theatre of Dreams' named after him??? Just seen this - 'The financial difference between the two sides is incomparable. It shows you just how good a job this Aberdeen team have done up against a side that has multi-million pound players in it. It shows what you can do if you are organised and you have a bit of belief like Aberdeen have, because they’ve had to come from behind and weather this storm. You wouldn’t say there is £118m worth of a difference between the two teams.' Edit - 'That’s a remarkable save. It’s a great sharp turn from Ashley Barnes and he catches it ever so well. It’s going like a rocket towards the top corner. And the reaction from Joe Lewis to tip that over the bar is absolutely sensational. It’s a brilliant save from the big man. That’s two this half. It’s a brilliant save.'
Well FML, the mighty Burnley have been held to another 1-1 draw with Burnley fielding a fairly full strength team. Joe Lewis has played a blinder. Edit - Drat, Burnley take the lead!!!!
Jon Nolan is highly rated from what I hear and was the real force behind the Shrews last year, after Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris of course!
Oh well, Aberdeen gave a very good account of themselves and ended up winning 3-1. Burnley got a dubious penalty. Shame, as the money they would have earned from making the group stages would make a real difference to their finances.
I could be wrong (no, surely not I hear you cry), but I think I have only seen his first name as Alec????
Dunno what Lampard can do. But that squad at Derby is insane. That is better than a lot of Premiership squads.
If Paul Clement loses to Lampard tonight. I think that will hit him hard. Paul might wobble after it.
