" bigger " and better looking glam. Glamorgan are worse than " crap". There's so much wrong with the set up. A massive overhaul is necessary. Perhaps they should take lessons from The Swans', there again, perhaps not, eh ?
Oh, to return to the glory days of a summer at St Helens. Now almost derelict, it offers no competition to the corporate hospitality now passing as Sophia Gardens. Progress? I don't think so.
Most, if not all, of Glam's glorious history took place at St. Helen's. 20,000 + packed in to see the tourists on a Bank Holiday in early August. It brings tears to my eyes to see how the Old Girl has been neglected and virtually cast aside. There are those based in East Wales who think all games should be played at Sophia Gardens. They are probably the same people that want to rename the coast between Cardiff and Porthcawl --- ' The Cardiff Riviera '. Should they ever achieve that objective, they will seek to extend it to incorporate The Gower.

Must admit to some enjoyable days at st Helens watching the cricket. When spin was our thing it was a big advantage. Probably the only ground in the UK where if you won the toss, the state of the tide influenced your decision to bat first or second. I for one certainly don't think all games should be played at Sophia gardens. The Maynard, Watkin, Richards era saw Glamorgan on tour with games at ynysangharad park, colwyn bay, Llandudno, abwrgaveny amongst others. My dad toured a lot of those grounds with his season ticket. It's a good way of keeping a wide audience engaged.
Engaging the audience. Indeed,it's essential. I feel totally disengaged with the current set up. It was always more interesting when Glam played around the country. Some of the other grounds were LLanelli, Neath, Newport, and Ebbw Vale. Peter Walker often told of the time he was batting at Ebbw Vale, and went out to do a bit of gardening. He was tapping the wicket with the end of his bat when he suddenly heard a noise coming from below the ground. Miners answering him in morse code.

I work at the SSE Swalec stadium on events quite often. It's basically a conference venue that occasionally hosts cricket matches. Outside of England matches the place is like a ghost town. It's actually one of the worst venues to work in from an outside company point of view - ridiculous amount of nonsense trying to do an event there.
Normal county cricket games should be played at different venues all over wales as long as the wicket passes the standard required......All international matches should be played in the capital as it is everyone's capital at the end of the day.......
When Dai refers to " international matches " he is referring to buying a box of Swan Vestas when abroad.
