As I gave said before, Modric has won most things in football except the World Cup. If he still wants to win it he has to be playing in a top team in 4 years time, getting at last 70 minutes on a regular basis. That is not going to happen at Madrid. He needs to find a top club who's chairman is not cheque-book happy, and will splash out over £100M to replace him the first sign of him getting injured or slowing down a tad. Where better than Tottenham?
It's got to come down to the player in the end. If Grealish tells Villa......"I'm sorry, I want to go, this summer.".....then Villa have got a problem, no matter what their financial position. If they can't persuade him to stay willingly, then what? This is probably similar to when Bale went to Madrid. The player's happy not to rock the boat whilst he believes the club are negotiating his departure. If he genuinely believes that the deal is in jeopardy, things will come to a head. Anything published in The Express, I take automatically to indicate the polar opposite is true.....it rarely fails me. I'd reckon this mean Villa know they have to sell Grealish and probably by the end of this window and most likely, to us.
What like the Express claiming earlier in the week that Mark Hughes was 12/1 to become the first premier league manager to be sacked this coming season.....by Stoke
A while back they sacked most of their sports columnists, especially football ones. Since then, it's just complete bollocks and nearly all of it's about United. I don't know many people that read a newspaper any more. I know nobody that reads The Express, even on-line.
Why do we always lose the big games then? Beating a team at home in the league is good but then against the same team in a Cup semi final we always lose? Why is that? Poch has to take his fair share of blame.
I really hope Grealish does not join us. He impressed in the Championship. I remember Tarrabt playing lime Zidane in the league a few years back. Think Grealish is vastly over rated.
I'm worried about having enough players in central midfield. Big Vic's injury is very concerning; Winksy's not been fit for a long time and may not be for some time to come. Can we go into a season relying on him? Mousa Dembele's availability this coming season is unknown - will we really let his contract run down or are we going to sell him? I think we know the answer to that one; Sissoko's got a hamstring problem and is limited when playing from the start of games, especially alongside Dier/Dembele/Wanyama; Is Lamela injured again? - on another site it was suggested that he was more seriously injured than we were letting on. Dele and Eric Dier have not yet started training after the WC; That could leave us Christian Eriksen and the kids to start the season and some serious gaps going further into the season. If we're unlucky with injuries, Grealish and another CM may be essential purchases. I'll leave whether he's good enough to MP, I don't get to watch much Championship football, as I like where I live and don't want to move into the flat over the kebab shop.
Why would Modric move from Real now. He's still expected to be in the team, he's winning trophies, he's probably on mega bucks and he only needs to be in the national team for the build up to the world cup (we ignoring the euros?), so a year or two before that. Why would he choose to move when he can run his contract down which i think expires in 2 years so then he can pick (if he's decent still most clubs would chase him on a free) which club is suitable for him.
Why's Ronaldo at Juve? Isn't there some almighty tax advantage being in Italy right now? Maybe, Modric's got a year or two left at RM and Inter are offering 3 or 4 seasons at great money and he'll not have to go to prison for tax evasion as well as perjury? I don't know about his current terms but Modric has a history of signing really **** deals and 2 or 3 years ago was definitely on less than £100k per week, when Bale was on triple that.
true, modric could leave now. It was more a counter argument for modric moving to spurs really if the world cup was on his mind in 4 years time. .
Luka's agent must be the ****test in the entire world. I remember him signing a new deal for us and about a week later trying to leave.
Because he's done it all at Madrid, the only way is down. Sometimes in life a new challenge is more important. It is refreshing, it kind of resets the clock. He also may not like the changes going on at Madrid. I work for a company that have just had major management changes and many colleagues are either moving on or looking for other work. Some are taking jobs paying 3 or 4 k a month less. It's not always the money, it's often about being happy in your work. He may also have other ambitions within the game. If he wants to learn how to be a successful coach, that is not going to happen at Madrid. He probably needs to go to a club with a decent academy, not a cheque book club.
surprised you guys don't spend some big money on someone like Doucoure. He looks like he's in the Dembele mould and fits the young athletic combative but decent on the ball midfielder. Wolves taking moutinho for 5m was an absolute steal and one that levy missed out on
Probably thought he could get a signing bonus from us and then another one from a new club. Levy disagreed. Might be trying to get a contract extension from Real by suggesting a possible move, as he's only got 2 years left on his contract. Anyone desperately looking for anything to tie him to a Spurs move might like the fact that he's sponsored by Nike.
i don't think that's horrendous in this current market but agree, i can't see levy spending that sort of money unless poch really wanted it (although you did do 42m on davinson sanchez). even the "bargain of the summer" Seri cost 25m
