I think this is right. It’s inflated by the loan, a liability rather than an asset. If he takes say £50m then he’ll reduce the asking price by the same amount. The value of the club to a would be buyer should be at least the same, if not more, as the debt is reduced significantly. I think!
If Mikey stashes and then withdraws say £40M by way of repayment of loan then the value of the Club’s assets decrease by an equivalent amount. If he then lowers his price £40M then one just balances the other and if you accept the Club was over valued (and hence the reason no sale) then no change and still no sale.
But the money that he would be taking out in order to reduce the asking price wasn't there when Staveley was making her offers, it's been generated in the meantime. So I think General is right - if the wheeling and dealing in this transfer window has resulted in a squad that is not reduced in quality then newly signed players values will increase and balance out stashed profits in terms of club asset value (apart from Ki maybe). The clubs revenue potential will be unchanged from last season in terms of Premier League status being shaky, but then we were told that was being factored into Staveley's offers anyway. Of course this all hinges on the new signings. If they fail to at least equal the performances/potential of who they are replacing we lose value as you say.
We've possibly improved. I did say that it's better that Rafa has players he wants in place of others he doesnt. However they are basically like for like replacements (potentially upgrades but time will tell) That is far from significantly improving. It is ridiculous to have made money on transfers and for people to be raving about "good business" when there is obviously more the squad needs and we seem to be reluctant to spend money that we have.
They were both in January to be fair and at times when iirc we looked safe-ish in the league so could afford to risk it a bit whilst taking time to find replacements. We can't give comment on this transfer window being good or bad until it's closed. Whilst part of me thinks we will bring in 3-4 players to improve the squad at a net outlay of £15-20m another part of me expects a wall of silence for a week or so until deadline day at which point we accept an offer of £40m+ for Lascelles and then lament unfortunately not having the time to buy a replacement.
I wonder how many people would take that if it meant the cash balance were enough for Ashley to sell up and **** off once and for all.
Think he has been thrown by Fulham agreeing quicker than he anticipated. He had hoped to draw this out until deadline day so we had no time to spend it.
You can only use history and try remember the last time we had a positive window. Could say Champ, but that was Mike protecting his investment. Could say McLaren, but he bought players with sell-on potential and ended up with a lopsided team that saw the club as a stepping stone. Plus, where's all the Wij and Sissoko money gone (summer) January or not, we never saw none of the Carroll or Cabaye money. After Cabaye we bought nobody for 18 months, that's not just risking it mate that's like putting your house on it. I think Pouchy's 'negativity' rhetoric is consuming us all. So far this window has been ****, but fans standards are that low to some its already positive. I can't get behind this waiting until the end of the window thing either. I'll happily eat humble pie (or stick two fingers up and point to the last decade) but why ignore all historical evidence and believe this window will be the one we're finally happy with. So, when Mike doesn't deliver the goods everyone moans but by January we'll all have to wait until the end of the window again before we can state the obvious?
I don't disagree that it has been fairly low key however I personally think that the overall squad has improved. We look like securing strikers Rafa wants to play and have covered the positions where people have left. The main downside is that that the improvement is minimal and we are pinning a lot of hopes on Kenedy. The main upside is that Roberts, Yarney, Lobby and more impressively Sterry may be finally given a chance.
If the club came out and said that I think people would have been happy to "stand still" for a year i.e. buy no one and hope the squad that got us 10th last season by hook or by crook could keep us up but its the lack of information that drives me insane. Again if they said "Mitro was sold for £whatever but is all in deferred payments so we have £2.5m from the deal this window" I'd understand...
Sounds like Gayle has rejected the chance to drop down to the Championship with West Brom effectively halting the Rondon deal... have to say I'd prefer Gayle than Rondon so I'm not upset about this...is it like a new signing?
I'm sorry but I think this is completely wrong. Mitro - never used, farmed out. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 1/10 Muto - Signed by Rafa from his list, likely not top choice. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 7/10 Mbemba - Bar spell as emergency left back, largely forgotten about and not used. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 3/10 Schar - Signed by Rafa from his list, likely not top choice. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 6/10 Merino - Injured a lot but clearly liked by Rafa. Signed by Rafa from his list, likely not top choice. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 7/10 Ki - Signed by Rafa from his list, likely not top choice. In terms of experience, knowledge of the league and familiarity with Shelvey, a far better option for me short term. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 7/10 Sels - Signed by Rafa but quickly discarded. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 2/10 Dubravka - Signed by Rafa from his list, likely his top choice. Marks out of 10 in Rafa's usefulness to him- 9/10 Kenedy - Half a season last year. Full season this year. I think we've done good business and siginficantly improved the options available to our manager.
Its no wonder we don't have any money if we are paying upfront for players and other teams are getting deffered payments
