A 5m bid will be made if other targets become to expensive or fail such as maiga or Cisse, anyone know anything about him, because ive never heard of him and seems a good excuse to spend little money on a stiker, much like cissoko was a smoke screen for santon at a cheaper price.

At least he won't be going to the African Nations Cup. Hope it doesn't come to that and we get a real surpirise today though (Pappis Cisse)!!

Cissokho wasn't a "smokescreen", we made a deal with Lyon to sign him for £8m, then they decided they wanted another £4m on top of that and we told them to get knotted.

    As for Ogunjimi:

Decent goalscoring record, young lad, can only improve.

Personally these names being bandied about are crazy. We need guaranteed goals, and from I can see only Cisse can offer that. Roux and Maiga possibly. I can't see Cisse happening, too expensive. We are linked with a failed 10m bid? They've been saying all summer they wouldn't consider less that 12m so we'll need to dig deeper. I think we'll see Macheda and Situ, business closed. Not what we all want as we need guaranteed goals. Fingers crossed I'm wrong but I suspect they were expecting folk to be a lot more excited about Santon. I think a few who know his game thought, "hmm we're getting a right and left back this is progress" Turns out we're just gonna play him in his 2nd role as a leftie because the official website wrongly describes him as a "left back"

Can't argue with 4 goals in 4 internationals. Wouldn't mind him AS WELL as Cisse ;)

    This!

Incidently, I've been watching videos of Santon on youtube all morning and he has no left foot. When played on the right he bombs forward, when played on the left he bombs sideways into the middle of the park. If as suspected he is going to play left back this season then I'm rather worried that we'll have nothing coming down the left and Jonas is hardly going to see the ball.

I think that too. But who knows? Pardew says Ashley is happy to invest the better we do so...

He can play left to be fair but he is defo a right back by trade. Watched him loads and must admit I'm shocked we have got him. He was comfortable enough playing left for Inter. His big games came against wingers who like to cut in like Ronaldo. I'm a bit old fashioned and a stickler for natural balance. Maybe in the next window we'll get a natural leftie and he can shift over. Suppose we can't expect it all at once.

I'm sure I'll see plenty of him actually because our local pizzeria/cafe in Jesmond has an owner who is a big Inter fan and he gets quite a few footballers/sportsmen in. Be very surprised if he doesn't appear at some stage. Pav was never away and Phil Mustard the Durham wickie is in all the time. That's if they can drag him away from his mamas lasagne!

I'm sure he can do a job there but I'm also a stickler for playing right footed players at rb & left footed players at lb, as I say though he always seems to cut directly into the middle of the park when he gets possession out on the left and this is going to stop the ball getting to Jonas as soon as possible, which will have far too a negative impact on our attacking play imo.

Aye like I say, maybe the chance to sign him came up and was too great to pass on. Maybe we'll still get the leftie in another window. Unlikely and its more likely we'll just decide he's a left back but who knows. Really pleased with the signing but I'm a little concerned about him playing left. Watch the games against Palermo (couple of times they raped him) and Sampdoria. They just targetted him knowing he was weak on his left side, had a torrid time.

Santon at left back until January then sign Pieters. Switch Santon to right back instead of Simpson. Too good to be true though.

    I agree with this 100% (I'm not 'Arry so I can't agree 1,000,000% because he's special)
