Might not ever make a signing in that case the way this market is going

    This <ok>

The term 'sensible' and the transfer market are simply not compatible anymore. It some ways Spurs' situation now echos Arsenal's back in 2006 (albeit without the success we'd had). We were transitioning to a new stadium and had a fairly tight wage structure and transfer ceiling in place, then along came Chelsea and City and completely skewed the market, so that virtually every other club was suddenly at a massive financial disadvantage.

In order to weather those years, we had to sell our best players, buy and develop youth and generally just try to balance the books. For all the stick that Wenger got, he still managed to keep Arsenal in the Champions league for all of those years, and ended his reign with a few more pots too.

I think Spurs are going to find themselves fishing around in the bargain bins for players over the next few years, because if they want to keep the likes of Kane, Erikson etc and pay them the wages they demand, then they ain't going to be going out splashing big cash on star names.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about Poch when talking to the media about transfers it’s not to believe much of what he says. Can’t remember all the incidents but one case was when he was questioned about Lloris possibly leaving a couple years ago, he said stuff about how he was unsure of the situation and then the next day the club announced Lloris signed a new deal (players often sign new deals days or even weeks before official announcements, so Poch definitely knew). There’s been other times where he’s done similar but can’t think off the top of my head.

A couple years back there was even “supposed ITK” that actually claimed Poch deliberately enjoys toying with journalists on certain aspects. Whether that’s true or not can’t be proven but I’d probably agree with it based on stuff he’s done in the past.

You know what, mate, it really wouldn’t surprise me. There’s actually been talk in the last couple hours that we’ve moved forward with negotiations (for the 74th time) so who knows, lol.

Don't think Villa need to sell cheap now that they've got new owners/investors. I think Levy was hoping to get him for a song, but if you do now, I'd expect Villa to be demanding £30m+, which to be honest is a **** load for Grealish.

I think Levy would walk away rather than pay that.

He’s possibly a great prospect, assuming he’s got his head straight now, but he’s still a championship player.

They're still screwed on FFP and need something like £50m in transfers to sort it out.

They still need to make around £40m to comply with FFP.

I can us getting him for maybe £20m rising to £30m in add-ons. I’m not really fussed on the fee though to be honest, I became a fan of his before Spurs became interested so would like to see him join regardless of what we pay. Think Poch could really help raise his game.

Chester/ Kodjia/ Adomah could probably raise around £20m-£25m combined I reckon.

Having a quick look, I think that they could make some cash on James Chester, Andre Green and Jonathan Kodija.
Not enough to make a serious dent in £50m, though. Maybe half, at a stretch.

Yep probably about right. Looks like there's definitely a deal to be had for Grealish then. I thought the new investors coming in would have meant that they won't have to sell, but if it's an FPP issue, then they have to balance the books and he's their most valuable player.

They could just try to **** the FFP, drag out anything that's thrown at them and hope that they get promoted, but it would be a big risk.
Worked for a couple of teams, but also backfired for some others.

They could get their new investors to throw some cash at a new training facility and sweep the whole FPP issue under the carpet.

I'm pretty sure that's all treated separately. It's all about wages and transfer fees, IIRC.

  19. Someone rang in to TalkSport today and made a good point. We don’t need to sign players like other clubs because (a) we have a young squad that is still improving, and (b) we’ve not sacked our manager, so there is no need to change our system of play.

Arsenal need to spend like **** on really decent players to even get back in the game.

We can get away with buying no players; they can’t even get away with spending less than £200 million.

Whoever that was then is a twat, because we've spent about the same as Liverpool did on one Keeper and we've signed a GK, RB, CB, DM and CM.
All positions that needed strengthening, and that have now been addressed.
