Apparently Rafa has said he wants at least 4 more in through the door before next Thursday... https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...ews/newcastle-united-board-told-need-14972100 I'll believe it when I see it but its not beyond the realms of possibility... 1, Rondon in for Gayle going the other way, 2, then a LB Tagliafico/Bryan 3, and it sounds like we are closing in on Maia on loan 4, a CB to cover Lejuene (probably on loan) Also not sure if that include Muto who is just waiting on his work permit. Anyone think we can get 4 in time?
What is this door you speak of? Is it revolving ? More likely to be 4 out through the door than 4 in ! I'd be pleasantly surprised if we bring another 2 players in and nobody else leaves
Maia is a done deal. Says so on Wikipedia anyhow so it must be true!! Lille[edit] On 15 July 2017, French Ligue 1 side and on the 31st of July 2018 he joined Newcastle united in blessed Geordieland
I think we'll get those 4 in - don't know much about Maia (although presume this means that Hayden will be allowed to leave?). Has anyone seen Maia play/know much about him?
Was very very highly rated when he left Brazil. Obviously came out of the much vaunted Santos system. I've only seen him a couple of times but he looked a very good player. Old head on young shoulders in how he read the game. I assume this must mean a Hayden exit deal is close if this goes through.
That sounds positive - hopefully he'll push Diame to play as well as he did last year. We still lack creative cover but overall, this looks good.
Definitely agree on those suggestions, not convinced we will “get them over the line” though. Would be a decent window if we did. Like to see a number ten signed mind but think that’s definitely getting too excited in Ashley land.
Been linked with all of the below over the last week: Ahmed Hegazi CB Federico Fernandez CB Diego Reyes CB Joe Bryan LB Nicolas Tagliafico LB Thiago Maia CM Anthony Limbombe RW/CF Salomon Rondon CF
Doubt it. Unless we count Muto. Latest news today is that we have rejected an opportunity to sign Maia on loan for the season with an option to buy - we were apparently offered him by cash strapped Lille. If true this underlines the response that the Chronicle are reporting Benitez to have received to his request for 4 more signings: "Benitez has been told he must continue to cut his cloth accordingly and that only a limited spending pot is available during the rest of the window." www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-board-told-need-14972100
Is it just me or is Ashley's fist even tighter than normal this window? We've just sold Mitro for £20m plus, but can't afford to spend off the back of it?
Frustrating isn't it? I know there are going to be some (well one) that defend it but it's ridiculous. We have affectively swapped keepers at no cost. Made a profit on the Mbemba Schar "swap" profit on the Merino Ki "swap" profit on Mitro Muto "swap" Kennedy in for nowt (I appreciate fees are involved) Also got hot of Haidara and Colback so those wages are gone. I'm not hung up on what a player costs and whether Ashley makes a profit, made the point on the old 606 that if he "spent £100M on players but sold Ameobi for £101M then I'd be the first to say 'well played sir'" but this feels different. "made" £25M+ so far if we are assuming Muto is coming. Again, not fussed that he has made a profit but it does get my goat when he is doing so at the expense of a proper squad and he is again gambling that he has given the manager enough to do his job. Yes, the squad possibly looks better than it was, the manager has players he actually wants, if not his first choice, and we have shot of players he wasn't going to use anyway. However it is clear to anyone that we need a number 10 and a proper goalscorer. I'm not writing Muto off before he has even played and we may well get Rondon yet but we have £25M in dealings so far plus money that should have been available to the boss before all that so get a decent striker and or no10. Ideally we want a DM and full back cover too. Again we seem to have some money and yet seem reluctant to spend it. How with the money he has made this window and money that should be available to a premier league club we cannot sign the LB we desire as genuine competition/cover. A decent RB, proper DM, proper playmaker and a proven goalscorer? Even using some of the figures mooted we should be able to get Bryan or Tagliafico £6-8M, Maia (loan) that's 2 positions sorted and £18M left from sales. You also factor in Hayden leaving and you are back up to £25M to sort out the RB cover/competition, number 10 and a proper striker BEFORE Ashley has used any of the money a premier league club should have available. I will eat humble pie if by the end of this window we have a squad similar to Dubravka/ Elliot/ Woodman - try to sell Darlow Yedlin/ A N other who is better than Manquillo Lascelles, Schar, Clarke + a loan to cover Lejeune Dummet/ Bryan or Tagliafico Shelvey/Ki Diame/Maia Kennedy/ Atsu or better if Atsu goes Ritchie and Murphy Perez and a proper number 10 Muto/ Rondon (or Gayle) and proven goalscorer If we get that then I'd be over the moon and I don't think I'm being unreasonable to hope for that especially given there could be further sales in the form of Atsu, Darlow and Hayden on top of the money made so far and the money a premier league team should have available. At the moment though we are a fair amount from that squad in that we don't have the LB, RB, DM, CB cover for Lejeune, no 10 or proven goalscorer. It's so frustrating that some of those positions can be sorted with little outlay but we are doing things half arsed and gambling again
If Charnley is in charge on a local level and Ashley has instructed him to build up cash reserves in preparation for a possible sale, the current policy would make some sort of sense. The signings we've made are sensible ones but as you've said it feels different this time; if we could get Maia for 8m we should have him here today for his medical, simple as that. If it's a choice between Rondon and someone more proven/suitable for 4m more, it should be a no-brainer. Who knows, we might have got our hands on Dost if we'd made a serious approach when he was unsettled, and that chance has gone now.
It does feel very different. We can all hope it's some kind of Ashley end game, and there are glimmers that it might be. If we have £70m or so from Sky (remember we spent none of the tranche from Feb either) + £25m from player sales as cash reserve, perhaps Ashley would write down some - if not all - of the remaining debt and sell for £250m - £300m. If he gets through the window and cuts that deal ahead of Jan, who knows.
Except that any buyer worth their salt will reduce the offer they make by the amount Mikey is/will pull out of the Club meaning we’re back to square one. Either way Mikey’s over priced the Club.
If we get 4 in then my arse, cock and balls will be twirling around in Fenwicks window whilst I wear Jak’a Man Utd top.
No we haven’t. We’ve swapped just about like for like but we definitely haven’t improved. If you’re so sure what positions have we actually improved?
Hmmm. I'm not so sure. If the assets of the club or it's earning potential had been materially reduced then yes a buyer would lower their offer. I'm not sure that is actually the case.
