Apparently we've signed this guy. It was on BBC Breakfast Sports News this morning. I thought we'd signed Sebastian Coates. Koartez is the way the plonker pronounced it this morning. Why do they do it? Do they think they're being clever or what?
I think i heard that pronunciation on during the MOTD commentary, when he was sat in the crowd. I am sure we'll find out soon enough, similar to when Dirk arrived.
His dad is British so really it's coats, but he was brought up in Uruguay so will pronounce it as those around him did. Britain is littered with foreign names that have been anglicized in pronunciation and spelling. Ask any of the Irishmen on here how to pronounce Cahill- it ain't kay-hill.
Firstsly regarding Sebastian Coates. I thought it was pronounced Kwatez. As for Gary Cahill, thats an English thing for highlighting the ''A'' and pronouncing it Kay-Hill. Its Cahill (Ca-Hill) They did it with Kevin Moran and Ronnie Moran, a strong emphasis on the ''A'' Then there is Andy Keogh, Its pronounced KEE-O , which is wrong. Its pronounced the way its spelt. Then there is Jeff Kenna, this is an unusual one as its not prenounced the way its spelt, you don't put an emphasis on the ''E'', you put the emphasis on the ''A''.
I'm glad we have you to tell us stuff like this. The only other person who would have known that is KPR , but he is no longer with us.
KPR. He's still one of my profile mates, so he must still be around. Just don't know where. He'd be good with Irish surname pronunciation as I thik he lives over there.
We do miss him, some still feel his presence on this board though. He left a big impact, especially with the Yernited guys.
