Bates failed to invest in any decent players in the Jan transfer window. That was the time to do it, as we were 2nd or 3rd in the table. Maybe the players weren't available at the time, but IMO it's more likely that Bates tight fistedness cost us any chance of promotion.

Saying we can't sack Grayson because we'll get a manager who is worse is like saying we can't sell Billy Paynter because we couldn't possibly get a better player. It's like saying Bates must stay because anyone that would come in would be worse. The whole point is that we, as fans, are not happy with how things are and are demanding an improvement. Accepting the mediocrity of Grayson (yes, I'm being kind there) is accepting that the club will never move forward. Fans must demand the highest quality available. If the board can't deliver then that's their problem, but fans must never accept anything less than the best.
