    Interesting from Aurier....

An eagle emoji surely referring to Palace, and also liked by Zaha...

I ****ing love **** like this. Much better than reading regurgitated ITK bollocks.

FWIW I don’t even care if Zaha joins but it’s just the excitement that builds from likely harmless social media posts like this, lol.

If we somehow engineer a swap deal with Aurier (+ some cash, presumably) for Zaha then I will be over the moon. Aurier is a waste of a squad number and only stands in the way of KWP.

I've seen this in a couple of places, but they all seem to miss out something else relevant, for some reason:

While I don't believe it's about Zaha, he also put three lion emojis next to it. They're both Ivorian, but Zaha's also English...

Despite the massive incomes made by PL clubs from TV rights, most [nearly all] are actually worse off financially within 5 years of being promoted - I put an article on here about it and the folly of thinking that promotion is a panacea to Championship clubs. Just look at Palace right now. They've been in the PL for 5 years but haven't progressed financially at all and if they went down, they'd be in financial trouble.

You're right, if you stay up you can keep the plates spinning - even if it is usually at the cost of ramping up huge debts. If you go down, they start falling and rapidly at that. Most clubs are relegated back to the Championship within a decade. The clever ones, like Burnley, build that into their model. Most don't and go through what Villa have been looking at or what's happened to Sunderland.

I personally don’t see anyway in which that tweet could indicate that Aurier is going the other way.

It could mean something completely different which he’s orchestrated purely for banter, but on the face of it the signs would suggest we’re close to signing Zaha.

Oh I agree. But a man can dream. Aurier will get another year at least, unfortunately

If he’s letting us know some genuine transfer business and helping to put us out of our misery, he’s worth his weight in gold, as far as I’m concerned. <laugh>
As @Dier Hard said, I’m also sick of all the itk **** on social media from clowns who haven’t got a ****ing clue and just attention seek in every window.

As I saw elsewhere........If Zaha was coming but Palace were trying to make some signings first and the players knew that, who would you expect to be too bloody daft to keep it a secret?

Maybe it doesn't sound so unlikely now?

My mate’s just whatsapped the group with the Aurier picture and gone:

“Lads anyone reckon the eagle means Zaha and three lions means Grealish? Could we be doing a double singing”

    (he means signing, obviously)

One social media post has just destroyed the Spurs fanbase with unparalleled levels of optimism <laugh>

Meanwhile, the Narrative of the day is that Reo Griffiths cancelled his contract in a fit of pique because he was left out of the squad for our US tour.

Here's the problem with that: if it's bollocks it's...well, it's bollocks - but if it's true, good bloody riddance.

One of the others has replied and he’s made a point, somewhat of a plot twist!

“You’re ****ing dreaming bro. Aurier’s probably hinting that he’s joining cpfc”.

The clubs you mention are no way or have never been anywhere near the standards at Spurs. We are knocking on the doors of glory, Poch deserves to be backed financially like our rivals are getting backed.

I fear our current set of players might get disillusioned if we fail to get over the line again and again. Regardless of everything else Levy has done for us, for which I am grateful, nothing will benefit us more than to improve the first team. 1 trophy under Levy suggests trophies are second to building a very attractive business model that will yield a tidy profit when and if the day comes to sell it.

Levy thinks he's smart playing roulette with our starts to the seasons...by trying to get us bargains...just because he could get away with it when we were trying to get into top 4 doesn't mean it's clever when we have managed to build a title challenging team...it costs us and I for one minute do not believe we would go under or anything close to it if we spent money this summer and with the wage ceiling having gone up the scope to sign quality has gone up too.

A few weeks left so I suppose there is still time but past seasons suggest that we should not be holding our breathe

I don't disagree but what business have United, Citeh and Chelsea done? Real Madrid? Barcelona? Lots of clubs want to do business but at the moment it's not happening.

We're reaching the end of the window and most of the top clubs are still trying for the top players out there. Whether it's transfer fee inflation or the World Cup or what, I don't know but we're not alone here. We haven't been able to buy yet and nobody's buying the players we want to move on.

For once we're not out of step with the clubs that we're competing with. We always leave it this late, what's up with everyone else?

City have bought a game changer in Mahrez, Chelsea have bought Jorghino who is a classy midfielder...both have addressed important issues with quality. I'm not expecting us to compete with these clubs when it comes to being attractive propositions all things considered but we are attractive enough to bring in some real top quality, if Levy wanted to...Pool have proven that there is quality out their and we all know there is too.

With regards the others...you'd just be more confident as a fan of them clubs for the simple fact that when the time comes the money will be splashed but for a Spurs fan we are sliding into familiar territory and it usually results in a panic buy at best. Even if we didn't have a stadium to pay for, do you think Levy would grant Poch a 100 million war chest to go and strengthen the team? it never happened when we were at the Lane and the only time it did was when we made a sale of 90million.

Levy's business ambitions as much as we have benefitted from them also hold our on field ambitions back. I'm not saying sell up Levy but for me his transfer window attitude is what is stopping us crossing the line.

We have got a better selling point than Liverpool have nowadays yet they buy their targets. I just think Levy is more bothered about the business model than on pitch success in the grand scheme of things, we will see.

Liverpool - spent big and improved the most
United - bought Fred and some right back. Biggest weakness is mourinho
Chelsea - replaced their manager and signed a very good looking midfielder (from looks of it)
Arsenal - improve just by getting rid of that dinosaur in Wenger. Signed quite a few defensive players.
City - their squad finished well ahead. Even standing still they will probably win the league but gone out and bought mahrez.

Whether you think arsenal etc have bought the correct players, they have at least tried to address their problems/bought in replacements (who thought trips and Alli etc would become brilliant from their price tags).

So far levy has done the sum of f all. Cheap, up and coming or marquee signings haven't happened and with half your squad still on your holidays/just coming back and the league just 11days away. It is looking ominous

As far as I can see, under ENIC, we've always spent what we can afford on wages and transfer fees given that we've been financing a new stadium]. We've had much less to spend than Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, etc. We've had £100m less each season and yet many supporters have asked why we aren't competing for the same players?

Mahrez was a Citeh player in January, like Keita was a Liverpool player. Those deals were hangovers from last season. I'll grant you Jorginho but Citeh were in for him and didn't get him. That suggests that he was either seriously over priced or really wanted to play for Sarri, he was never coming to us and I don't think that we were ever in for him

Last season fans were pointing at Evertoon as an example of what we should be doing. Maybe we should have spent £50m on Richarlison or Gylfi? There's gonna be a lot of business done between now and the end of the window. If we don't spend on suitable talent, I'll get my pitch fork out. In the meantime, it's business as usual. We'll be going late......again.........like we always do.

I get what you're saying mate and I suppose it would've been nice to have gotten some early business done but we still have time - and we still have a very good bunch of players with many still improving.

The whole "rivals getting backed" statement is a little OTT to me, only Pool have seemingly made significant improvements.

Arsenal have mainly signed stop-gap options.
City have added Mahrez but with or without him it doesn't really change the fact they're ridiculously strong.
Utd have spent big on a guy from the Ukrainian League, could be another Fernandinho, could be a flop.
Chelsea have signed Jorginho who looks good but could potentially lose 2-3 players with Courtois, Willian and Hazard all linked with moves away.

As for us, I'm confident we'll make signings and good ones at that. It would've been nice to have got it done sooner but nonetheless I think Levy is going to back Poch big time.

Every season those clubs have spent more and bought earlier than us. We've finished above all of those teams in the last 3 seasons under Poch. Most of them a couple of times. If spending more and earlier is the answer, it's not showing across the board. Chelsea bought Bakayoko, Morata, Drinkwater, Zappacosta and I can't remember who else, I bet you'd willingly ask for your money back, if you could.

Spend what you like, when you like. If the players aren't any good it counts for nothing.........Morata <laugh>.......Bakayoko..........<laugh> <laugh>
