You’re right. Very rarely do champions retain the title....and the only teams that have done it have been real quality. I’d argue, after a record points haul, City have that quality so will be hard to displace. Remember, we have to also beat the other 2 teams that finished above is last year and fend off challenges from a the other London teams if they get their act together quickly. All will have strengthened by the time the window closes.

Whatever happens, it’s going to be an intriguing season - can’t wait!

This is also my opinion. Let’s say we lose Mo or Bobby for 3 months. Do we have the right quality in depth to cover? What about VvD? We are absolutely getting there but to challenge, we have to get really lucky with injuries imo and hope that others are not as lucky!!

True but your comment suggests all other teams should give up should they lose those key players.

We showed last season we can cope if a big player (Coutinho) is taken out the side.

I don't think we'll win the league, the hope is we challenge but it really depends on how players settle

You've chosen the two star players that both play upfront, that's bound to have an impact.

What of Man City lose Aguero and Jesus for three months?

De Bruyne and Silva for three months would be worse for them imo

Edit... take Messi and Suarez out the Barca team, how would they get on?

If I’m not mistaken, city did lose Jesus and Aguero for long periods last season, Silva was also not available for quite some time, as was Kompany......they have real quality in depth. I did mean lose one or the other, god forbid both (no jinx!!!)

They were not injured at the same time. The last two champions have had very good starts or unbeaten runs that have enabled them headroom for slip ups.

It is time we took advantage of the chaos brought by the world cup to build a good lead for a title challenge.

If City get anything close to their last seasons haul, they will win again. Let’s hope, as you say, others (and not us) are affected by the World Cup exploits of some key players....and we get a good start. We need everything to line up for us to have a good chance. <ok>

I won't make any guesses as to how our season will go until we have a few games under our belt.
If we got 15 points from the first 6 games I might start to hope.

Interesting point about how long managers get these days...

Lets say Klopp doesn't win anything this season. Do fans start asking questions and whispers about could we do better?

Personally, as much as I would love to win something (ideally the league!), I love having Klopp and watching the style of football we play. It's exciting! I've got a feeling we'll be closer this year and possibly win something, but I certainly won't be calling for any changes if we don't because I know I'll love watching us play which is a damn sight more than a lot of other fans can say about their club.

If we continue to play great football then no. All we need to show is some improvement in the league and hopefully get to another final

I don't think any fan that has half a brain questions him but some less intelligent ****s will because they believe everything the media print.

The media will run with Klopp's "we'll win a title within four years" comment and back whatever ****e Mourinho cones out with

If we keep playing the way we have* then he can stay for life as far as I'm concerned, even if we don't win anything.
However, I believe it's only a matter of time before we do.

*Defence has to improve though. Hopefully we'll see some progress on that front.
