I don’t know why the PL haven’t made a rule about how many players you can have out on loan. Chelsea particularly have been taking the piss with it for years.

 

They have made c. £400m in transfer over the last few years or so doing it...

 

If he scores against us we buy him is that the deal?

Not sure it was, the hoovered up tonnes of talent over a number of years, send them out covering wages and intake loan fees then sell on for profit. Can't recall which paper it was in, but it was massive net intake.

In fact last time someone did post a transfer rumour on it I believe they were told to stop spreading rumours

A new rumour! Apparently "Southampton keen on Polish wonderkid Sebastian Walukiewicz" [various sources].

 

It is their way round FFP. Sign up a load of players young, loan them out to develop at various places. If they develop as you hope and become good enough for the first team great, if they don't sell them on for a profit a few years down the line and use the profit to buy a first team player. It is a very good model. Chelsea however aren't very good at the selling part of it. Not only choosing to sell off some of the players (De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku spring to mind) but the fees they get for these players aren't that good. Sure they look ok in at the time (£18m for De Bruyne, £12m for Salah, £10m for Bertrand, £28m for Lukaku all looked alright at the time only to look stupid within a season or 2). They should've made more than they have, all be it they still make a lot of money doing it.

It is also a very good way for a young player to develop and they will be earning far more doing so than staying at a smaller club so I can see why any young player would jump at the chance.

 

In terms of transfer news, lots of places reporting we want Drinkwater on loan which, if true, would make me think Lemina is going. Can't see any other reason we would be going for someone like that in a position we are stacked in unless we were losing one of our bigger names there

 

Rumour alert. In today's Sunday Times. Probably not true.

Manolo Gabbiadini is wanted by Fiorentina. The striker started just 11 league games for Southampton last season and scored five times including a crucial winning goal away to Swansea which boosted the club’s chance of survival. He scored six times in four games after his £14 million move from Napoli in January 2017 but did not manage another in his final eight matches of that campaign. His agent said last week that he expected the forward to stay at Southampton.

 

And I do hope his agent is correct.

 

If anyone we need leaves now, we are right in the crap. I'm happy for the window to shut now, because I get the feeling there's more chance of a out, than a in.

Indeed. It's by far the most rational approach for a large and supremely wealthy club given the set of constraints provided by FFP, which is why Man City has started to follow suit (though with an added wrinkle where Man City has also been picking up older players on frees who'll never, ever play for City, loaning them out and then selling them later). Unless the rules are changed, Chelsea would be crazy to stop doing it.

They've definitely made some errors along the way, and part of that owes to the necessity of moving players on to allow them to inflate their wage budget; they cannot be patient with a Salah or KDB because they need that £10-20m profit on player sales to offset their wage bill.
