I think the recent matches showed that we will match the two Manchester clubs for the title. We easily thrashed the red version and matched the blue ones. This is our best chance yet, with our best team for a very long time.

It is now or never for Klopp. He hasn’t got any excuse now. He has the world’s most expensive GK and defender.Plus the most prolific striker in the premiership. Our team is one of the most expensive in the prem and he’s been around for nearly 3 years now.

I think Klopp was a bit unwise to say he’ll never spend big money on players. Of course he didn’t know he would get a windfall from Coutinho. If you’ve got it you’ve got to use it and sellers know you’ve got loads of the cash.

I think we should go full steam on the premiership. And leave Cups alone. Klopp has been to 3 finals and lost them all. It could become a huge psychological hurdle.

How many years did Fergie have? We’re doing fine, heading in the right direction and our squad had only just started to have serious money lavished on it after years of stagnation when compared to the Manchester clubs or even the London clubs (spurs aside) - city have quality in real depth. We still have to build that so we need real luck with injuries to mount a title challenge this year imo. For me it’s City, then the rest of the usual suspects scrapping it out for places 2-4.

city are 100% favourites coming off thier record season.
lfc need luck and a fair wind.

    why?

I think we forget city set 100 point record with both Jesus and Aguero being injured at different times

Exactly. Closing that kind of gap takes more than us improving - which I’m sure we will. They have to worsen and drop more points. But there is no doubt now that we are building something pretty cool imo.

This is why I don't get how inactive Man U and Spurs have been.

Ok Man U's might be because of failure to land the targets they want. But Spurs seem to think that just keeping hold of Kane and Erikson is enough to catch up with Citeh.

    yes my feeling exactly.

title needs to be around 90 points for a race for anyone... not 100

we need to get to 85 plus which will be a big step in itself.
I am looking forward to mane salah firmino kieta

Utd will still spend big imo. Much bigger than us. Spurs will also buy and always leave it late but have a stadium to finance so who knows with them really....can’t see either team standing still, we’ve just done our business nice and early.

Can't see Spurs buying big or at all. Their wage bill will have shot up with the new contracts handed out and like you say their new stadium is going to take up alot of their income, it'll be a while before they can funnel that back into transfers (similar to Arsenal).

Get the feeling that Poch has been told he'll have to make do with minimal signing over the next few years. Its why they've handed out those new contracts, they know that Kane and co might look to leave in the next few years and with their new contracts Spurs might be able to get big money rather than lose them on frees.

    spurs team today

    lloris
    trippier Sanchez vertonghan rose
    dier dembele
    moura alli eriksen
    kane

or whatever. they don't really need to buy par we unless someone really good is about. they might buy potential this year.

    Utd

    de gea
    Valencia bailly Jones dojo
    fred matic felliani
    mata lukaku Sanchez

tbh utd want alderweireld and willian...

After that I see strong teams in the top 5 or 6 so it will be about best team and least mistakes.

dropping points stupidly with silly errors will prob decide this league.

If we could play our strongest XI every game, then we’d certainly be challenging for the title.

The issue is the squad depth - our defence is likely to go to **** if VVD is injured or missing, our midfield will lack creativity once Keita is rested or if we don’t sign Fekir, and our attack drops massively if we put in Solanke or Ings, or Sturridge is out injured.

We are in great shape. From only having a world class attack, we added a world class defender (VVD) who was big reason why we improved defensively, now added one of the best keepers in Europe along with two of the most talented midfielders.

Our first XI is now incredibly balanced and we are one CB And one AM away from having a complete first XI.

We are on the verge of something special IMO.

Apart from Man City, you could say the same for other teams too; take their best players out and they're not the same.

For those who have followed the league over decades, it is obvious that it is very difficult for champions to win the title again. We did it a few times in the 70s and the mancs in the 90s and 00s under Ferguson but more recently champions have found it extremely difficult to play at the same level the next season. Yet people including pundits and seasoned veterans keep having champions as clear favourites at the start of each season. City will have a more difficult season and will not win it by Feb/March like they did last season. Their players will not be as hungry as last season.

For me, we should and will definitely challenge for the title. Going in the right direction is good but overtaking our rivals to cross the line first is what we want ultimately. Ferguson was given lots of time in the 80s but that was a different era. Who gets given 6 years these days? I think Klopp will be expected to win something this season.

Klopp expects to win something this year, he put the pressure on himself. Although I'm sure he could just point at the three finals we've been in and claim bad luck

True. But that’s the issue - if we want to win be league, we’re competing with City.

Our squad isn’t ready IMO but my point is that we shouldn’t be expected to win the title just yet. We’re steadily building this squad into something special.
