There's alot of talk about Clint Dempsey. Not sure about a source, but Fulham fans are talking about it on their board and a few 'in the know' people on Twitter are giving the rumour the rounds. If we got him for less than £10million, then I wouldn't mind him. He's the standout performer at Fulham, very passionate and wants to take the step up into the Champions League, so he'd be motivated. Obviously not a Cesc replacement though, but a good squad player.
I know a lot of our fans would be negative, him being a yank and all, but the top level of americans are really the same level as the top english players, as shown by the national team performances. Sometimes these areas of predjudice are a good source of value signings.
Not that I'm saying they're rubbish, but if what you say is true ... how come there's no American players at any of the top clubs in England?
Well, I could easily say something like "since the USA won their group in World Cup" how come some say Clint Dempsey isn't good enough to play with a top 4 team? p.s. Everyone remembers who scored against England, right? Dempsey would make a good winger (not a cm!) who scores goals, has Premiership experience, a desire to win, and has done adequate when called upon as a striker. He played a prominent role in Fulham's campaign to the Europa final, too, and in the USA's 2nd place finish at the last CONFEDS cup. So, add that he has big game experience to his list of positives also. If the price is right, he should be at least considered.
what site does everyone ous to watch the deadline day i use sky sports and goal.com any other good ones? (apart from bbc)
I think today is going to throw up a few surprises. Along with the expected signings of Mertesacker and Santos, I think we may make a big name MF signing
I think any signing we make in addition to Mert., Santos and Park will be someone we have tracked for at least a week or two. Park was probably the only "surprise" signing out of the people linked with Arsenal.
I think it's very probable he was one of the LB's we were looking at. Wenger rightly does not want publicity on possible transfers as that can quite often have an effect on the price. Rival clubs making inquiries just to increase the price (giving the selling club more negotiating power, i.e. "club X and Y have made lucrative offers") isn't all that uncommon.
