1.50 Ascot THE MACKEM BULLET. Forget the rivalry. This is a useful tool. I first noted this horse on it's debut at Carlisle,I was actually interested in another horse in the race but this one caught my eye. It was totally clueless, slowly away, running all over the place,to such an extent the jockey couldn't ride it - yet towards the end of the race it was putting in some good work. Her next race was at Musselboro' - a horrible track for sprinters,She was slowly away again, and had no luck in running, being repeatedly hampered yet was beaten under two lengths by No Lippy and I am convinced she would have won without interference. Her next race was again at Carlisle, and this was what I had been waiting for - 6 f on a stiff track. I had a really good bet,and she absolutely bolted up! 5 lengths- would have been more if the jockey had picked his stick up,and for good measure the runner up won 2 1/2 lengths at Epsom next time beating an odds on shot. Next time she was withdrawn from a York race [ ground too firm] So why has Ellison picked a group 3 at Ascot? and booked a top jockey, Osin Murphy? It's along way to come just to make up the numbers. Obviously it would be a bit of a stretch to put her up as a nap,but she is just the type of improver to out run her 16/1 price. She owes me nothing so iv'e had a sentimental score on her.
That looks a tough race JH, with most horses likely to improve on previous efforts. There isn't one I could rule out. Interesting though, that your selection is 40/1 with Lads. Possibly a NR?
3 co favs for the KG. Does anyone know why Rob Havlin is on Cracksman. Good jockey but, usually, Dettori rides. I notice Rob has ridden Cracksman before (on début). Is it possible that Rob has the ride in the Arc because Dettori will not desert Enable?
40/1 with lads? not any more it isn't - if ever it was, odds checker has it at 18/1 generally 14-16/1 This is a weak group 3 The race she ran in at Musselborough was a grade 2 stakes race. Yes,there will be improvers, but as I said, from her debut at Carlisle when she was clueless to her last run at Carlisle would suggest she is getting better with experience. Probably has it to do to beat Royal Intervention, but I wouldn't put it past her - especially if the thunderstorms arrive
Sorry, It's ATR not up to date with the Oddschecker odds. Lads and BetFred have her at 40/1. Don't know how they can be so far out
I have to say that Ascot is not my favourite racecourse to visit since the rebuild; but for some stupid reason I bought a ticket for King George day so I will be going to see what may turn out to be an ordinary renewal. I am not holding out much hope of Cracksman actually taking his place in the line-up as the trainer and owner have now admitted that he needs soft ground to stop all the fast horses so he can win. I remember when they left Golden Horn in the race to make sure the punters showed up at the track and then took him out after the first race. It is probably reasonable to expect that Salouen is going to try and make every post a winning one, a tactic that nearly worked at Epsom (probably would if he had hogged the rail); however, he is not a Group 1 horse. Equally, Desert Encounter has not looked like a Group 1 performer. As I do not think that this year’s three year olds are anything more than moderate, Hydrangea will only be winning here if the older horses have not progressed from last year’s mediocrity as her races this year give her no chance on form. Rostropovich missed out on the Irish Derby in a three-way photo but that looks equally moderate. Coronet missed out in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud on the nod and the balance of her form suggests that was a Group 1 in name only. The winner was entered here but does not travel from France because of the dry ground. Sir Michael Stoute obviously holds the nap hand here with his two Royal Ascot winners. Poets Word reversed Champion Stakes running with Cracksman on the fast ground and steps up two furlongs. CRYSTAL OCEAN won the Hardwicke Stakes over the distance but just how good a field contested that Group 2 contest? Any rain is not an issue so I prefer him over this trip to his stablemate but he needs to improve to pick up this Group 1. I like FLAMING SPEAR in the big handicap after his debut run in the Hunt Cup. The biggest concern about his middle draw is that they will probably split into two groups and Winston will pick the wrong one! There are three in the race that owe me money so I hope none of them beat him. Not sure I would want to lump on Chesham runner-up Nate The Great back over that course and distance in a small field where the only front runner is from the Johnston yard and probably looking to steal it.
Bets on early due to bit of overtime at work. I should be finished in time to watch the racing on the telly with some light refreshments 1.50 Asc The Mackem Bullet (Great write up Jh Stand convinced me) 2.40 York Enjazaat 3.00 Asc Flaming Spear 3.40 Asc Crystal Ocean EW Lucky 15 & Ew singles. Have a nice weekend fellas. Good luck
Two for me today at Ascot crystal ocean in the King George and ripp orf for my favourite rogue in the race prior wit Haley up top.
Having read the above I can happily proceed. Strongly fancy SHADY MCCOY 12/1 Ascot 3.00 today. Won his group last time out and on revised terms I think he can come out on top.
Just returned from the delights of Ibiza and time to get stuck in to some red hot horsey action... Anyhoo: Ascot 3.00pm - Firmament 16/1 e.w 5 places. Finished 5th in this race last year off a mark of 10lb higher. Has been there or thereabouts in some of his races this season so am anticipating a big run. York 3.15pm - Elarqam 2/1. Bit of a tricky race this but with the rain they have had up at York this should help Elarqam although slight doubt for me that he will stay the trip. I think Thundering Blue is the danger and i see money has been coming for him but Elarqam has 9lbs in hand and Johnson should have the horse fit after break and I think the weight advantage will be enough. Good luck all.
