Morning all, another very hot day in prospect. I was hoping to do some outside painting, but looking at the instructions on the tin it will be too hot. Looks like another afternoon of watching riders climb up mountains, or fall off as they descend at 80 kph. Yesterday one failed to take a bend and disappeared head first over a wall. He was helped to climb back from the drop behind the wall, given a medical check-up, then was back on his bike.

He only has to avoid the tear gas, thrown urine, spitting and road blocks by farmers to safely arrive in Paris. !!!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Morning all, every day seems to get hotter with the temperature expected to hit 36°C this afternoon. There is a service here that you can subscribe to where the postman or lady will stop and check that everything is well with the elderly who live alone. A few years ago in another heatwave it was shown up that the country was ill prepared to look after the most frail, but there was rapid action by the government to make sure that it didn't happen again. I am pleased to say that since then the situation has improved dramatically with no reports of people being taken to hospital because they over heated.

Glad to be back home on our hill, down in the valley it's 38 degrees - unusual for Germany, even here close to the Rhine, the Germans are all wilting :emoticon-0102-bigsm Unfortunately a lot of my garden is as well, rain seems like ancient history at the moment.

Thunderstorms due here about 1.00 o'clock in the morning, I might run about naked in the rain. :emoticon-0105-wink:

The heatwave has certainly cured any idea of living in Spain. Oh for a normal English summer.

Brought my turbocharged fan out this afternoon. I had forgotten just how powerful it is, and some paperwork that we had on a table went flying. I watched the Tour and noticed for the first time that some of the team cars were handing out ice packs for the riders to place on their necks. Still at 36°C it cannot be that hot as my neighbour Bernard has not stripped down to his vest yet. :emoticon-0103-cool:

The weather is crazy at the moment. According to the report Cologne will be 6 degrees warmer than Algiers, 10 warmer than Lisbon and 9 warmer than Athens tomorrow. Even Oslo is set for a mild 32 degrees.

Storm started here - plenty of rain and lightning. Only occasional thunder, but when they come they're very loud - our front door has already been shaken once.

The onsite brickies have worked all day in the sweltering heat, their only respite was the 10'00am fry up in the local greasy spoon. I've just decided against fitting air conditioning into the new house banking on this summer being a one off, might regret that one.

You certainly will if you haven't specified some decent insulation, or it's not going in!* Mind you, if you're where I think you are (given the clues you've given: swimming pool; access gates; length of planning history; what I do for a living) then you can always cool down in the wine room.... <laugh>

In the mean time, I hope you were keeping your team well watered!

*I was once involved in a project, not a million miles from Arsenal's ground, where the developer put in just enough evidence for the lower ground floor tanking to fool the LABCI. Built, passed and sold in the summer... flooded in the autumn. top of the range engineered oak parquet flooring blocks. Took months to dry out with big industrial sized dehumidifiers whilst they were living in other parts of the building before we could eventually strip and refurbish. I specified the new waterproofing and insulation for them, getting LABC approval for the remedial works.

    The insulation seems decent.

Current problem with LABC, The cover was taken out in my name, paid by me but the main builders name has been put on a contract for a self builders indemnity agreement to indemnify LABC for structural defects. The builder is naturally reluctant to sign stated that is the purpose for paying LABC. I phoned LABC and found out they are seeking a 12 months defect guarantee from the builder, as apparently agreed in my contract with them. I asked how long this scheme had been in place and she thought about two years. I need the LABC certificate so I must solve the problem.

I visited a friend in Benalmadina a few years ago it was November and the temperature was mid-twenties.

T-shirt and shorts for me but all the locals were wearing overcoats <yikes>

When I lived in the Tarn the locals kept their overcoats on till June. Hope you are enjoying sunny Noriwch Dave. :emoticon-0148-yes:
