Social media gives relative anonymity for childish people to vent their spleen. Abuse is out of order but he should realise that and not bite.
However, it's not abusive to simply state that he isn't good enough, and that is my point of view.
Can he get better - who knows? All he can do is use his time out of the limelight to work at his game and his concentration and prove the haters wrong.
Mignolet should be somewhere where he can play all the time, he's good enough to do that at a team that doesn't have our requirements.
Karius should remain as second-choice and show his mettle. Getting all aggressive-defensive shows that he's hurting, but he can't blame others for his own mistakes.
If he shows the right attitude I'm sure he'll get support.

As ever, grounded criticism of his performances is fine, but personal attacks, abuse and threats are just ridiculous and these people really don't have enough going on in their lives

If we're selling a keeper, which we probably need to, then Mignolet is the immediate candidate for a transfer since he's coming into his prime as a goalkeeper and doesn't have anywhere near the levels of negative stuff attached to him as Karius does, despite the shortcomings we know he has as a keeper

Karius I think might even end up third choice keeper with us as he rehabilitates himself

And now he's bitching about us buying a keeper.

I agree with what you say except for him staying with us. I think he's more likely to grow as a player elsewhere. People are going to be overcritical of every mistake he makes with is going forwards. Once a player is tainted by you own fans it's too late. You can't have a player being tainted by his own fans in a professional game.

Took him years and years though, plus as an outfield player there's probably not quite so much scrutiny on you and certainly not on every mistake

How about De Gea. A lot of United fans wanted him gone when the media were highlighting all of his "errors" (i didn't see that many).

That's like telling bullies to stop calling a kid at school gay, because he's just very sensitive. No matter how good he gets, the criticism isn't going to stop, because that takes some humility, which those who would post that kind of crap lack any modicum of.

Would we have won the CL final with Allison? Well, he was playing in the semi and they lost. So no, we can safely say we wouldn't. He's had one good season at Roma and was kept out of the Brazil national side by Dida. Bloody Dida! I'm not saying Allison's a bad keeper but then I didn't say that about Karius, either. Maybe we got a record signing Buffon and maybe we got a Dida but there's a lot of faith being placed in a short period of evidence.

How lucky for Lloris that France were already ahead when he made that Karius-shaped error in the World Cup final.

And of course there was that Karius-shaped fumble by Allison in the Copa America, which trundled into his own goal but was disallowed. Brazil were still eliminated.

But let's not dwell on the errors of others. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof, as Matthew said in 6:34.

Is there hope for Karius? I think that depends on him now. I hope Henderson takes him under his wing, because the almost universal praise for him during the World Cup was a much better answer to critics than any social media response.

Lucas Leiva was very different. People didn't think he was very good but there wasn't the same outright hostility towards him. People would make fun of him off the field but there wasn't fans chanting negative things about him during a game and he wasn't target by vicious attacks online.

Karius has a much steeper hill to climb than Lucas.

I think that's more to do with the day and age we live in.

I'm pretty sure people were very negative to him, i remember how maligned he was (or it was reported here)

People were very negative to him at times but it wasn't as personal. People didn't think Lucas was good enough.... It goes beyond that with Karius he is very much a victim of hate. I don't recall Lucas being threatened by violence.

Karius has had negative chants. Lucas probably would have been more of a target in the social media age. I think that makes a difference though.

There are plenty of others that have had this treatment too. We even have some (Other than Karius) in the side now such as Moreno and Lovren. Doesn't matter if they have a good game, they'll get **** regardless.

I always liked Lucas even when others were bashing him.<ok>

Moreno and Lovren are mentioned above... But whereas fans really don't like them and have no confidence in them (Moreno especially)... I don't personally think they get the same hatred as Karius.

I feel like Karius is on a special plain formerly only occupied by people like Voronin and Balotelli. Its not just that people think he's crap.... People REALLY don't like Karius. He is hated.

    wasn't lucas fault as such.

when we brought him i assumed the idea was for him to learn off alonso and mascherano, and shortly after we lost both and lucas was left to get on with it.

it was at a time when we had to make do with what we had and we could have done better, yes we could have had worst but we had no funds to replace him, as much as people want to defend lucas he would have been replaced if we had funds.

dirk was diferent as he ran his socks off and gave his all every game, esp the game suarez got his hatrick, that summed up dirk for me.
