She really should have got it before her shift started. However, with that said, I'm not totally heartless and would be OK them stopping at like a quick convenience store or somewhere you can be in and out of quickly. I'd question the need to go to a big store like Tesco to get water when you're on duty in the first place no matter where you parked... Even if she parked on aisle 3.
You can only use the lights in an emergency so you wouldn't put them on for that. People need to understand that these people are still required to respond even if they are on a break so quick access to the vehicle is essential. When I was Police I parked right outside anywhere I went regardless of the road signage.
Something else not mentioned is the busybody who took the video in the first place. Probably done a lot more damage than good as the lad probably lost his job over this. Can anybody say something good that will come from this?
I get that thinking but fact is you maybe on a break and then you get a call and it's break over so again you need access to the vehicle asap.
If someone is on the floor in the shop thats not an emergency then? i dunno if you pull over and go to buy water its clear.. don't park like that. find a petrol station with adequate space to do it at. I can't help now but imagine you as sheriff roscoe p coltrane now.
Military Police but yes I drove around in a police car and responded to emergencies we never parked somewhere just because we could it is genuinly for fast access to the vehicle incase you get a call.
And how come Tesco are paying private parking companies to police their car park - never, ever seen that at any supermarket I've been to. Thought Tesco were losing money, no wonder if they're wasting it like this.
You stop and get food/drink where and when you get a minute, the only thought you have when you park like that ambulance did is so that you can get back to it quickly. Breaks don't exist you just grab stuff when you can.
The only thing that makes me laugh in all this is the ambulance driver wasting time with it, the ticket isn't valid and nothing would happen. I would have taken it off the screen and binned it.
I think most supermarkets that are in the town with limited parking use private contractors? Pretty sure most places in london do anyway. The Leisure centre I visit and Lidls certainly do
Never seen it in Liverpool, Warrington, Chester, Widnes or any other local towns where I've parked at a supermarket. None of them have limited parking either. Is this new? Edit: I do remember once parking at a supermarket with signs up saying for patrons only and someone hanging about checking people going back to their car to see if they had carrier bags from that shop.
maybe a london thing where space is limited? I dunno, whenever you enter the car parks you can see who the operator is (if they give out tickets)
Yes. There are military discounts and military this that and the other everywhere here. It would probably explain why I'm less forgiving of the ambulance driver than most of you. I see all these special privileges for different groups every day.
Here in the US police have no jurisdiction over private parking lots. I think there are exceptions like parking near fire hydrants and handicap parking. But a lot of stores have stop signs in their parking lot and other traffic signs. They're completely unenforceable. You can breeze by one in full view of the cops and there isn't a thing they can do about it. Also, you could (although I don't) park in a handicapped spot if there is no unloading zone next to it. There are many without unloading zones next to them. They're not legal handicapped spots without them so you can be ticketted parking in one. I don't park in them anyway because I'm not an arse hole.
it's not so much that you have to pay for parking but more to stop people over staying at the car parks and using it to go shopping all day or go out on a jolly. Seen it in many places where the max stay is like 2 or 3 hours if you are a customer. Likewise i think sometimes supermarkets share town parking (where you do need a ticket but might get cheaper/subsidised parking if you produce a receipt). Never had a ticket but presumably theres a ticket officer that goes round collecting it. Actually i lied, i got a ticket at aldi once because i didn't realise i had to validate my car on some machine thingy. It was all automated as they take a pic of your car, you enter details into the machine and it makes sure you're a customer based on your receipt. I didn't enter details into the machine and they sent me a letter with pictures of me entering the car park!
