No mention as to whether or not the parking attendant checked to see if they were on a call-out before issuing the ticket. If they were, fair enough to park right outside and probably absolutely necessary. If they weren't is it still okay, probably. The driver wasn't doing a weeks shopping, just a bottle of water. Her excuse for not parking in a bay because it doesn't fit is a bit lame because it will fit in two bays just like when a motorhome parks up. Not parking in a disabled spot is a bit of an excuse as well given the picture shows lots are free and she would have been in the shop for about 5 minutes. I'd say she's taken advantage of stopping right outside to do personal shopping because of the vehicle she's in. Am I bothered, no. The ambulance service has earned the right to take these small advantages which after all was causing no danger or real obstruction.
I'd normally and in an ideal world say any emergency service when not on a call shouldn't be allowed to abuse the status of the vehicle to suit themselves. Also depend on the yellow lines... if they are at a corner or on a narrow street they are there so that an obstruction isn't created and people aren't put at more risk going around them or not seeing past them. But since I know a couple of ambulance crew and know how rarely they get their full breaks on long and horrible shifts I have sympathy towards them.
1. PC gone mad = major flapping about cancelling ticket etc. probably trying to sack the jobsworth who gave ticket too. 2. no lights on = not a call. the thing is too big to park apparently in a regular bay.... tough. there are two of you, stay with it and one go to shop. 3. bit of ****ing common sense there jobsworth. its a ****ing ambulance. let it go and move on with your life eh? not too many nods and winks to these lot as they will take a mile same as us all but some little bit of leeway eh? 4. nearly more controversy about this then the ambulance the mindless twats trashed during world cup.... hmmm slow news week?
I hope the lad who issued the ticket doesn't get any abuse seeing as his picture's out there now, bearing in mind he thought he was doing his job correctly - The parking warden says an ambulance cannot be parked on double yellow lines unless the crew is dealing with an emergency call. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
No issue. Ambulance driver stopped to get some water. He was not answering an emergency he was illegally parked. I'm not for giving people privilege to break laws just because they drive an ambulance. If he was on duty responding to an emergency it would be different if course... But he wasn't.
My initial thought was they'd taken a massive liberty and were just using the vehicle's livery to do what they want at the expense and inconvenience of others and I still think there's an argument that's what they were doing But she is providing an essential emergency service as a paramedic and being properly hydrated helps her do her job effectively, so I can see an argument that she should be able to park up there since the next call is probably only minutes away anyway From the article the law states that on public property/roads/land they can park where they want when they want so is on their side, on private property it's up to the landowner
Having been part of an emergency service in the past I disagree, they park right outside the entrance to shops so that if there is an emergency they can get back to the vehicle asap as they work in a job where seconds count. @moreinjuredthanowen
Got to say that police in regular patrol cars have to be some of the worst drivers out there (at times) The lad who gave the ticket has been called in 'for education' or something, tbf he was probably only concerned about losing his job if he didn't ticket them and I don't think it was clear at all for him how to proceed in this situation
I think technically when on a shift they're always 'on duty' if not technically always 'on (a) call' That said I don't think they should be allowed to do dangerous stuff or block roads for trivial reasons
Over here in the US you see a lot of bumper stickers featuring a blue or red bar across a black background. It's supposed to signify you work in emergency services (or a spouse does)... And it's basically a bumper sticker saying "don't ticket me, I'm one of you" to the cops. Those stickers disgust me. As does the idea of people getting out of tickets for speeding just because of their job. Police should get tickets too when they break the law and are not responding to a crime.

The emergency service vehicles are allowed to stop on all waiting restrictions with no clause included to say they must be on duty to benefit from this. If they'd stopped on double yellows outside a shop to run in for water, there would be no issue. Same action, different scenario - private land. Private landowners are allowed to use private parking companies to police their land using 'laws' that are different to the regular laws of the land. Is that more an issue for debate than the bbc article we're talking about?

The lad who gave ticket sounds like its a contractor so they prob fired him quietly after. so be fired if someone complained about not ticketing or was seen by boss not going so. IMO you just look and say... ok... fire brigade, ambulance, plod... lets just let that slide, they won't be long. If they are making a blockage tell them to their face. common sense says if you ticket a ferrari and they complain your boss is happy. if you ticket an ambulance or a cop car and your boss won't be.
my assumption is the lights are not on, and were not on and the doors at back are closed. If they left lights on i would say the guy was an idiot. the ambulance crew said they just didn't want to take a disabled bay. Bang on the lights.
I get the impression about yankland that theres a LOT of nepotism in that regard. I think a lot of military get such an easy ride at times they think they are owed it for life over there.
