The trouble is that although our players aren't top six quality they are still targets for the next tranch who out pay us by some way like Wetspam, Everton, Leicester etc.
I believe Lemina is one of our best paid players (£70-80k pw) but that is no where near where our main com pedicures are who pay 50% higher and we know that players simply follow the money

Anyone else think we should go for Ademola Lookman? Everton seem willing to sell for the right price (£20m?) and he is the sort of player we desperately need!

The loan of Clasie to Feyenoord means that Saints have £42m of talent out on loan.

 

Andre Schurrle to Fulham! That has to be the buy of the window so far for me. How the hell have they pulled that off.

 

If Schurrle Is coming to a smaller club in the PL, we should be all over that.

 

Too late now. We are not some big club that can hijack a move that has nearly been completed....unlike the Roma/Barcelona saga.

 

True but we haven’t lost anyone to that group that I can think of. Jose obviously but he had other reasons.

Indeed, but he’s the sort of player we should be after before they are snapped up by one of our competitors. Schurrle + Dembele and I’m suddenly not concerned about our attacking options for the season ahead. Don’t think getting those two in would break the bank either despite their talent. Still, there’s time yet for our attacking third to be addressed.

 

Mina would almost certainly be a first choice CB compared with what we have at the moment. Personally I would sell Hoedt to help finance it

 

Sadly thats because they are virtually unsellable at this moment in time however we are saving £6m+ in wages plus getting in a loan fee

Best to loan them out if they can't be sold now as hopefully a good season may make a sale more possible. As well as saving all or some of their wages and freeing up space in the squad, don't underestimate the advantage to not having to spend time on players that you will never use...unhappy players will be more of a nuisance to the manager than happy ones. I remember a manager saying something on those lines (Stuart Pearce?)….he said you would arrive at the training ground with plans in your head for the day and an unhappy player would be waiting to see you with his agent in tow....and your day would be blown out of the water.
