Linked now with both Rondon of WBA and Welbeck of Arsenal. Which one would you sign (assuming we can only sign one and we do actually sign the ****er) and why?
Welbeck has more talent, for me, and like with Kenedy I could see Rafa getting the best from him. Rondon is a bit of a battler and limited, who would be an upgrade on Joselu but more of the same.
I'm going for more of the Welbeck type player - we have wingers/full backs who can't cross hence Mitrovic is **** for us. We need tricky, pacy strikers and intelligent.
I don't ever remember watching Rondon play tbh. Wellbeck is sharp and a good finisher but has been played out wide a lot from memory. I thought Arsenal was a funny move for him tbh. I'd take Wellbeck if his attitude is right for the fight and we build the team around him leading the line. He's got the sharp style of play that Rafa likes. Bit like Andy Cole but not as good. I just dont know about Rondon.
If we sign Welbeck, we'll have the same strike force as last season, but have more physio bills... He is a good player, but he's a crock. Also, we have no money.
Neither both ****,the way I see it we're selling a forward to raise funds to spend it on worse players.
I like both but Welbeck is made for Benitez in how he plays. Pace to get in behind but works incredibly hard and closes down everything. Underrated player for me.
We aren't getting Welbeck so it's a bit of a moot point. But Welbeck, of course. We look most likely to pay 5m less for Condom than we would have Plea. I know which i'd rather have taken a punt on.
As far as I can follow, Rondon has a release clause of £16.5m, but he also has only 1 year left on his contract. Is that right? If that's the case there is no way (and rightly so) we should or will be paying that kind of money for that kind of striker. A year left on his contract and you should be talking £6-7m IMHO, £8m max and that is super generous. There's no real chance of any sell on value with him being almost 29 so he shouldn't be commanding any kind of premium. I would just expect us to get moving on someone else if lowly West Brom are going to try and take the piss. But of course the whole thing will go to the end of the window as usual, which is just how it is when clubs try to get best value for players.
Aye fair enough, still believe Brommers will hold out and we'll get desperate and put out. Surely it's more than a year as we offered loan and we only do that with players leaving? Either way, in this scenario Condom will take a lower wage than other options due to desperation to be back in the prem and to never have to wear a West Brom shirt again. Unlike most clubs, we'll factor in potential signing on fee demands for a free agent and see a deal as a bargain. Whilst not 17m, I still see us effectively paying 11m at least for Condom, way over his value in that predicament. Against the cost of Plea and age difference, potential, etc, hunting Condom seems oddly wasteful. Reports confirm we already offered 4m just to take him on loan. Short-termist or what.
Welbeck is a much better players than Rondon and a better player than we have currently in that position. Having said that, we will not pay £100k a week on wages and I suspect Arsenal want to sell as opposed to loan. Personally though if I had the choice Welbeck is the one I would chose!
Are people serious about Welbeck?! He's injured 95% of the time, and hardly ever scores when he's fit; in his 4 years at Arsenal, his league goals totals have been 4, 4, 2 and 5.....we may as well just stick with our superstar Joselu for figures like that. Rondon's league goals in the last 3 seasons have been 9, 8 and 7....not saying I want Rondon (hell no!), just trying to illustrate that Welbeck isn't the answer to our prayers.
£11m for Condom? That's a bit stiff! Did your Mates tell you that? I enjoyeDurex girlfriend by the way.
