I agree that the potential is still on paper until the season starts, but I really do feel we now have a much stronger squad. Gunn did a great job, but he struggled in the beginning because the defence struggled in front of him. The arrival of Hanley steadied things and Gunn came into his own. The defence is now settled and experienced in this league, which gives me more confidence. The midfield is much stronger now, both at CM and DM, but I also have qualms about the 4-1-4-1 formation, even with the new options. I'd prefer fewer layers in a 4-3-3 or a 3-5-2 so the ball can be worked forward more quickly to a more mobile attack, but players can get back into position when the ball is lost. Rhodes, Pukki and Hernandez are well suited to either formation and could form a lethal attack. None are well suited to a sole striker formation. If DF gets the tactics right, this squad should be stronger in all aspects, defending better, moving the ball better, and hopefully scoring better. That's the potential, but it has to be made to work.
That could be, but it could also improve his game the way loans did for the Murphys, Maddison, Morris, Matthews and Godfrey. It will give him Championship experience and more playing time. I'm a bit concerned about having only 3 CBs plus the Godfrey option though.
I would be very happy if we was loaned to, and played for a Championship team. If he is a regular starter. Could save him. This feels like his only chance.
I think that’s sensible. We can see if he is capable of performing at Championship level without the risk of playing him ourselves. He wasn’t going to get ahead of Hanley, Klose or Zimmermann this season. Sensible move for me
So what are you complaining about FML??? That is exactly why we are doing is it not?? It’s not a waste of £500,000 (yet) he’s not being sold, still in contract until 2020!
I agree with you. It's another good bit of work by Webber to get a loan move for him to a Championship team that shouldn't bother us in the standings.
Didn't realise he was 1.96m, that surprised me. The loan move is ideal as he's failed to convince so far. He seems to want to be here, lets hope he gets his chance. Worth the risk at the price we paid.
And some more words from TK - “Chris Hughton is top, top manager,” said the Dutch international. “He said to me: ‘You’re not a number two, go back to playing and show people what you’re capable of’. “As a goalkeeper you have one position. Last year Matty Ryan had a pretty good season at Brighton and they brought me in to challenge him. He had a bit of a rough start but the moment I walked through the door, he had a blinder, but that’s part and parcel of being a goalkeeper.” Krul was rated one of the best in the Premier League during a stint at St James’ Park that was cruelly halted by a serious knee injury. The experienced stopper aims to prove he can still cut it So General - we've signed a striker or two and a GK??? What position is next???
I’m not complaining. Championship loan is probably best for him, I don’t think Farke sees anything in him at the moment.
Not a transfer, but interesting article about Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons, both of whom came to us from Luton. Hopefully Lewis could play tonight and Aarons could just be the next breakthrough: “I think Max has got the potential to play in the Championship and the Premier League,” added Broughton, who now works as academy manager at Norwegian club Bodo Glimt. “He has similar attributes to Jamal, really good aerobic capacity, great attitude, always wanted to train hard and work really hard and those were things that make him stand out.” http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...cks-former-luton-prospects-to-shine-1-5621448
I really like the look of Max. If we sell Pinto, I hope he gets a chance like Lewis did last year. Apparently Jemal and Max are cracking lads who work their socks off. Lovely to hear.
And Stiepermann in an emergency. Aarons can also switch to LB, as he did against Union Berlin. Husband was much better once the whole defence improved and Tettey and Trybull were available.
The whole defence struggled early on with Zimmerman and Franke not coping with long balls and Reed at DM. It's a team game.
