A lot of lessons have to be learned about keeping concentration.......Especially when playing the top teams. It would be interesting to see how many of the top teams actually secured their victory in the last few minutes of the game. I'll wager quite a lot.......

 

Ralph actually said that at the end of last season. He said switching from a policy of building 'em high and sell to an attempt to stabilise the team by holding them to long contracts was a mistake. It was hidden in one of his very long speeches so may have been missed.

I have to point out though that fans actually liked us playing hard ball and applauded the idea of not selling players so readily when it was introduced, but it was done at a time that we actually had very few players that teams were falling over themselves to sign....really just VVD...and his contract presumably got us the big money.

So we must accept now that we are back to a policy (that we not so much developed as was forced on us) of selling big money players to subsidise the team. It is a decent business model for a smaller team and works as long as you can carry on getting good players in. And it means that we might benefit from players coming here for just that purpose.....whereas they might avoid us if we stand in their way.

And presumably you don't have to pay such high wages as if you want people to commit to 5-yr contracts....which means it is easier to shift players that you don't want. All a matter of balance...like everything in life.

West Ham and Sampdoria in advanced talks over the sale of Pedro Obiang for around €10m (£8.9m).

Obiang has a contract at West Ham until 2022 and the club will leave the final decision with him if and when a fee is agreed.

Obiang joined West Ham from Sampdoria in 2015, and if he does leave, we are told the club are looking at Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina as a potential replacement.

 

It's been said before, but worth repeating. If we aren't a 'big name' club, our best chance of attracting really good players is this. But it means being pragmatic about them leaving....

 

And also a lot of this is about perception...the media talk about us as if we sell half our team every season....there was a couple of seasons where we sold several players that were flavour of the month and made massive headlines. Since then it has been one or two players....about the same as every team. Most teams outside the top 6 or so end up under pressure to sell their top players and few resist more than one season.

 

Candreva scuffing up the Northam penalty spot a year ago kept us up.

 

Seems the deal for Filip Kostic won't dissapear, Also Clasie has agreed to go to Feyonoord, Announced tomorrow. Loan deal.

Well this summer is the opposite, we are struggling to sell players so having to loan them out.
In reality we don't have any top 6 quality players any more, we didn't end up in trouble last year for no reason

 

Too much interest and the starting bid is laughable. Just thought I'd share.
Would be a massive coup.

The News Now site used to be great for keeping up with transfer news about Saints but it is now full of absolute crap written by bloggers looking for click bait.

 

This the guy we should have got instead of Carillo - Lukasz Teodorczyk. We were allegedly looking at him last summer. A target-man who can score, create, and make his own chances. Haven't heard anything about him moving this time.
