Given that over 75,000 Hullensians served in World War one, with around 7,500 not returning (including my great grandfather) and a further 20,000 suffering from wounds, a casualty rate of over 30%, I think 'few' is a tad wide of the mark.

Serving and doing something heroic are two separate things. Both ny grandfathers served in WW1, one receiving an injury from a shell blast which affected him for the rest of his life. Neither would consider they did anything heroic.

I had to look twice at the score, Hull FC losing 72-10 to Wakefield, whatever next?

Like Basil Fawlty not 'mentioning the war' we don't mention results like that, if you don't mind. It is a 'well done' thread after all. <laugh>

They didn't mention it at all on all the local BBC news bulletins yesterday it was as though it never happened.

Probably because Wakefield is closer to Leeds then Hull and Calendar is broadcast from Leeds. Our local BBC managed to avoid mentioning it all, they didn't even give the result out.

HDM appear to be going with 'woeful display' and 'embarrassing loss'

What are 'Super 8's' in a Super League of 12, just the top 2/3's?

As a kid I was a target of bile in a sea of black and white, until that is Hull FC got beat in 2 successive Wembley Finals, Wigan and Wakefield, 59/60 I think. I was ambivalent then as much as I am now, I'm old but I don't forget the jibes of never having been to Wembley, never mind never winning at Wembley, something Hull FC had never done by the way, got there got beat. Wagstaff Way has a better ring to it.

BBC focused on Hull's defeat on Look North, no mention of us playing the black and whites tomorrow night though

Must have been bad. After their previous two defeats they were described as "valiant" and "brave".
