Read a report yesterday, in which it was claimed that Krul was qualified as "home grown" as he was at the Toon from the age of 18. Could this be true?
Yeah he came through their academy If he passes his medical it’s an excellent signing imo. He was a brilliant keeper once upon a time and got Netherlands caps. I can see him acting as a guide for Mathews, who I reckon will play a lot of cup games. Also Krul has always been injury prone I believe so we could see a lot of Mathews anyway.
Confirmed by David Freezer: Krul "would count as one of the seven required homegrown players in a matchday squad as he was with Newcastle for over three years before he turned 21." IMO we need to keep both Matthews and McGovern if Krul was to sign because of Krul's serious injury record. If his anterior cruciate was to go again we'd be down to one keeper and Oxborough from the U23s. Makes more sense for Oxborough to go out on loan. McGovern came to us from Hamilton, so shouldn't be on very high wages.
Not sure about that. He impressed at the euros and was a free agent. There was competition to sign him and traditionally free agents get larger wages because there's no fee. I would think he's one of the better paid second/third choice keepers in the division.
Was it him that was subbed on for Netherlands at the end of extra time in a recent tournament specifically for the penalties?
Yep - came on for the pens and saved 2 !! (I think that was the same number that JR saved in his entire career here )
The latest Pink'un article is the most positive yet: "Barring any late complications, Krul’s arrival will be confirmed in the next 24 hours, leaving the 30-year-old free to make his debut potentially at Luton Town on Wednesday." It also states that Krul wants to stay in the UK, which may avoid the Besitkas threat. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-set-to-sign-tim-krul-1-5620454
Krul is valued at £2.25m on TransferMarkt (his highest valuation was £8.1m) and though there would be a sign on fee and fairly high wages, it still seems to be good business if it happens, compared to paying similar money for a BuLi2 GK.
Further details: "Free agent Tim Krul has completed, and passed, his medical with Norwich ahead of his move to the club. According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, Krul will become a Norwich player today after finishing his medical. He claims that Krul will sign a two-year deal with Norwich following his release from Premier League side Brighton."
Love it. What a signing, well done to the club. I feel a little less nervous about us at the back. He should be able to bark the orders and control his back line. Also, Remi will learn from him, which will be great.
Signed and sorted, according to ITV http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2018...city-sign-former-newcastle-united-goalkeeper/
