Academy has had a real refresh this summer and u23s is going to look rather different and a lot younger. I know there is no hard rule to success, but the majority of players who make it to the top of the game make their senior starts around 17-18. I’m confident we will see a player from the youth team become a squad regular by the end of this season.

Bologna 2 U23 0 - Deserved win. We hardly had a shot on goal. Not sure how strong the Bologna side was but we looked a bit out of our depth. Resolute defending kept us in it till the death - first goal was from the spot (possible dive) and second a sweet shot on the turn in the 90th minute.
The problem is probably that our U23s are mostly U18s, don't forget we let go loads of our older acedemy players
Yep and the Bologna side were mainly older first team squad members. We had also played a few days earlier against a Slovenian 2nd Div team -ASK Bravo and drew 1-1
I don't count him as part of the U23's anymore. Certainly not in the context of the question as he's already promoted to the first team.
Our youth side won again 3-1 in the NI supercup. Don't know why that has stopped working, but the team we beat was called Strikers. We now have 2 wins = 6 points and have one more game to play before the semi-finals. This reminds me of the youth cup we organised last year with teams from all over the world entering.
