I know this is only a wind-up post, but I'll bother replying anyway. Duchatelet's wealth does not give him the right to mismanage and abuse CAFC indefinitely. The harm his policies and his incompetence has done is there for all to see, including our gloating rivals. In my opinion we are now approaching the point where the long term damage done by the Club by RD cutting off his money and allowing it to go into administration or even be wound up, is no worse than the damage he is causing himself. If RD is still Charlton's owner by the summer of 2019 almost all of our squad will walk away for free. Relegation to League Two will then follow. 4th tier status will undoubtedly put the Valley at risk. At some point (only three or four seasons from now in my view) it will be less painful to begin again in the 10th tier with nothing if it means finally being free of Duchatelet.
I think it's more to do with fans giving up hope that the take-over is going to happen at all. If the take-over does happen and there is a big surge in ST sales, I will be right. If the take-over happens and there is only a modest jump in ST sales or none at all, then you are right. If there is no take-over we will never know, and we will all be the losers.
Can’t have that ...if fans believed in the Aussies & their PR stories they would have showed the colour of their money. PS: Villa secured new, multi millionaire co owners last week. It took Dr Xi all of 2 months ...
No disrespect to Charlton but Aston Villa and Sunderland are huge football Clubs by comparison. Average home gates in season 2017-18 / Approximate value of squad Aston Villa ................. 32,000 ............................. £75.3 million Sunderland ............... 27,350 ............................. £40.5 million Charlton .................... 11,800 ............................. £7.5 million They have a hell of a long way to fall before they reach our level - even Sunderland, who I believe will be League One Champions this season. Duchatelet is doing the worst job in history of making Charlton Athletic attractive to potential buyers.
I point you in the direction of Luton Town who were arguably bigger than Charlton at the time of their demise. They didn't have a Douchalet bankrolling them, and thus went the administration route and were relegated in 3 successive seasons (points deductions all but guaranteed this scenario) It took them 5 seasons to get out of the Conference. It has then taken them 4 seasons to get out of League 2. Would that scenario be worth it, bearing in mind that in 12 years after admin they have only just made it to the 3rd tier?
All fair points TC. And yes, one could feasible acknowlege Duchatalet did the club a favor by stepping in and putting in the money to keep us afloat. However, it should be added all the money put in is being charged as a loan, with interest, so the idea of RD as a charitable old cove is not really a fair description. From there, we can move away from his loans, to the cynical and stupid way he has run the club. Nearly all our current problems stem from decisions he made persoally as he decided from the off he knew all about running a football club. If you are looking for gratitude you are on the wrong fórum, though I believe there may be a few fans elsewhere who still feel he is a true gentleman of football, and the problems all stem from the naughty fans we have. There is a feeling here and there that the Luton track would be okay if we got rid of RD, but as most of us are complaining like mad about our ongoing presence in League one, I can't see we'd be happier about a 5 year visit to the conference. I remember Dartford beating Luton at Kenilworth road back then - great experince for the Darts fans, but not much fun for the Luton supporters.
Fair points Ken. I wonder if Luton fans would have welcomed someone like Duchatelet and his wallet into Kenilworth Road all those years ago - I suspect we both know the answer to that one
Apart from "Honest" Richard Murray's word, do we really know that this is true? With all the rumours flying round about directors' loans and EFL approval and dodgy investors it's hard to know what's going on.
Other Charlton social media outlets are confirming what @DickPlumb and I were told last week. No phoney, underwhelming takeover from any buyer until at least September. Some narcissists will get a kick out of the attention this attracts, its just bloody depressing for long term Charlton fans.
Charlton Athletic will be relegated from League One in the 2019-20 season if Duchatelet has not sold the Club by next summer. End of June 2019, most of our squad just walks away.
No. Millwall Jimmy (just to maintain continuity) said there were a difficult two weeks coming up, and there would eb a mínimum two weeks, but it would all be worhwhile. As a counterpoint, NLA, who by simply saying the deal was nowhere near complete has scored much higher tan the 'imminent' crowd, says that 'maybe not this season'. Lets be honest, no one knows, and a lot of the 'in' crowd are probably being fed news for distribution. Life is too short to be glued to this rubbish.
NLA might be closer to the truth, but Jim (nice but dim) is a bloody nice chap (please don't sue a fellow Millwall fan)
The timeline [15 months] is now roughly as follows... Done Deal Imminent End of February Next Week Very, very hopeful Scarves gimmick at Play Offs Difficult Two Weeks I do hope the various messengers and ITKs are not going to get too precious. Fans with IQs in double figures are starting to draw their own conclusions regarding these so called buyers. An absolute shambles is my view.
Give NLA credit for going against the tide of optimism, countering it with a dose of reality, which was not well received by some, James even ordering him to "Give it a rest". Is two weeks another deadline? Who knows. I won't admit to the deal being a dead parrot until Roland appoints a CEO though.
