We've needed attacking reinforcements since half way through Rons first season!

 

We weren't struggling for goals under Koeman IIRC

We certainly did in the second half of his first season if I remember rightly. I and a few others was screaming for another striker to be bought in January as we were still in the top 4. Reckon we'd have made it too had we got a striker in at that time.

 

Yep. Back to my original comment earlier today...... preferably 4 or 5 players getting 8 to 10 goals a piece makes all the difference.

 

Have we ever had that in the top division? Is that really realistic?

 

That sort our thing saved Rokos ads though..... double figures from Long, Pelle, Mane and contributions around the team on top of that too. Tadic nearly got there (7) and Davis (5). But yes, whist it wasn't four or five; it was pretty damn close!

It does scare me that we seem to be going into another season with Redmond as a nailed on starter. He was atrocious last season. Hope we at least buy someone to challenge his spot in the side.

 

Really disagree. Coaching and management mattered in a lot of aspects, but the sheer lack of creativity and firepower comes down to the players we were fielding. Pep wouldn't have gotten 50 goals out of that grouping last year, and I'm not sure it has been improved upon in a significant manner.

 

I guess we'll have to wait and find out, then you can say "I told you so"...

 

It'd just be nice to get ahead of these things. We've been playing the "it looks like we're short good attacking options, but let's wait and find out" game every window for the past 2.5 years, and each time to date we have found out that, yeah, we were lacking. Maybe this time will be different! This time probably won't be different.

 

Perhaps it's the glorious Summer and the the great WC but i'm just not feeling as gloomy about our prospects as some of you are.

I really think that Sparky will set his teams up to be more adventurous and take more risks going forward than Pellegrino's obsessively conservative and rigid approach to attacking and that will result in more goals, excitement and entertainment which is what I care about the most when I watch Saints.

 

My biggest fear is a dull season finishing around 12th or so and going out early in the cups.

If we're not gonna challenge for Europe then I'd rather us just go down tbh.

 

Can't be as dull as most of last season was, surely.

 

I said that 12 months ago. No chance I'm risking getting caught out again! Keeping quiet this time.

The run in was pretty exciting.

You would say that

 

Over his last 2.5 seasons with Stoke, Sparky's side swashbuckled their way to barely over a goal a game. About as prolific as the Puel/Pellegrino Saints, so I'm yet to be convinced that he's a panacea for our attacking woes.
