I didn't say that but buying, say, Cahill (£12m), Baines (maybe £15m given Everton's need for cash) and Parker (£5m-£6m) would give you three very good players all capable of playing in a good footballing side who wouldn't run the risk of taking 6 months to learn the language, adapt to the weather etc etc. I have no doubt this lad from Brazil has the potential to be a fantastic player but I personally don't think this is the time for Arsenal to be building for the future.
Yes quality mate !! what'sthe point of having players passing the ball around and get slaughtered when the going gets tough? Arshavin is the captain of his national team so is Rosicky. Their performances were just disgraceful: they looked as if they couldn't care less... I doubt if the likes of campbell, adams, terry, would have stood such a display
Agreed. Wenger isso focussed onvalue for money that hecannot see the big picture. I think he once said that all the british top players were overvalued and had been sold and bought for too much money. He is happy to sell Fabregas for 35 million and Nasri for 25 yet he thinks 10 million is too much for defender like Cahill or Jagielka. All the clubs know that he needs a defender and he has £80m, so they are not going to sell their players cheap. If he wants the player he needs to make it worthwhile for their club.... Ferguson goes for the player he wants. In the end when the team does well all the players values go up. It seeing the wood for the trees.
Mr Watford why would you say that there is a huge risk that these talented players may not work out. They all I believe have international experience, have been capped for their countries, have played with overseas teams, in certain cases are captains or have been captains of their various teams and along with all this experience, one would have thought they were professional in their approach and outlook. Yes I do feel the other big four teams around us are pushing the boat out but teams have spent much before and not indeed spent well. The season is long and I wouldn't have thought or at least I hope, our board has greater ambitions than merely being also rans. Kind regards
Because with any foreign player, no matter their quality, there is often a bedding in period. Some hit the ground running (Berbatov) but many take up to a season to show why they were bought (Dzeko). I have no doubt they are all professional and will do their best for the side but they are in a new country, league, formation etc etc. Chelsea and City are in a position to give players time to adapt whereas Liverpool have highlighted the need to perhaps sacrifice some future quality for shorter-term success so have bought relatively limited players for the most part but players who will be at or near their best straight away. Saying that I think Enrique is a fabulous player and Arsenal should have been right in there when they had the chance. I think given the qualities this Arsenal team has they could be improved far more with some players who know the league and provide a spine of experience at this level than with players of excellent technical ability who probably won't be at their best for several games. Best wishes
I don't disagree with you Mr Watford but this is what we have and I'm hoping it'll work for us. We should have signed Jose Enrique and I'm astonished this was missed. As you may have read from another thread or two, transfer negotiations are not quite in Arsene Wenger's hands. Indeed our most recent departing big name suggested yesterday ( the one who provided several assists against Tottenham ) that there was a mechanism within the Emirates that was not advantageous to the well-being of the club or words to that effect. There are things at Arsenal that are not quite right. Hopefully there may be a way through this. Keep enjoying.
Well I just hope you are still in the **** on new year's eve when we play at The Emirates, albeit highly unlikely. Maybe Barton can get Walcott, Van Persie and Vermaelen sent off and we can hold out for a draw.
Serious question here. Why are english players far more expensive than their foreign counterparts? I've never been able to work it out.
Managers want to see passion - too many foreigners appear to be just mercenaries. Hence cost goes up for the best English ones - also there are more players of quality abroad. We are taught to hoof it !!
Would Barton not be serving some form of suspension, not for the first time then? The music director of my alma mater is a QPR man. To him and you I send my best wishes.
You have a point. But I think more of our problem come from the fact our players arent as good as they were. Part of that, is of course being mentally strong and powerful. That is an asset for any player. However, I just dont think people like song, walcott, even rvp, kol, clichy were of the quality of what we used to have. Henry didnt destroy teams because he was a hard man. He destroyed them because he was a fantastic footballer. We dont have those calibre of players anymore, they are all at barca, real, manure, chavski, citeh and the milan clubs
Yeah but i wasn't arguing against that point. However you have got an interesting view there, do you think that the signings of Viera and Petit were mainly because of Dein?
I don't know that he doesn't look for it. If you consider the likes of Jack and Gers, I think there is spine in evidence especially in Jack. But yes you have a point in that overall it seems to be lacking in our sides particularly in the post-Viera days and has only surfaced occasionally...
I think Arsene Wenger has the problem or difficulty ( take whichever you like ) of not having someone like David Dein to ' work with '. Therefore he cannot always see the full picture and the older he gets ( happens to all of us ), that picture becomes smaller. Not only does the defence need organising, the entire team does since as you say they simply pass and pass and forget about where the ball ought to end up. The passing game is attractive and fine as long as we get the results. Arsene is probably a good squad builder. He's not bad at creating talent too as we have seen but tactics is a grey area and he needs to bring in someone else to help him with that. After all the players are sourced today, we need to bring back David Dein and install any one of Messrs Bould, Keown, Dixon or Bergkamp in a role that is akin to Mike Phelan's at OT - IMHO
Why should Wenger buy British when he gets better value for money buying foreign? No brainer. I do think Wenger shoots himself in the foot with some of his decisions though, Oxo cube for £12m .... for example.
