Good Morning Everyone Leeds are in a tug of war with Derby and West Brom to sign Brentford's highy rated winger Florian Jozefzoon. Leeds leapt into gear yesterday following an announcement that Derby had made an acceptable offer for the 27 year old French man. The Elland Road club are back in the hunt following extensive talks with Brentford that went on well into the evening. Leeds are signing Bulgarian goal keeper Dimitar Sheytanov from Levski Sofia! The 19 year old will link up with Carlos Corberán's under 23's in the forthcoming days. As reported by our intrepid reporter Richard (ristac) yesterday, Kalvin Phillips has revealed that Marcelo Bielsa has asked him to play as a third centre back! Speaking to the press the 22 yo said: "I'm not too sure to be honest. Obviously I've been playing as the deepest midfielder and I've been playing in training as a third centre-half as well so I think he's just trying to work out where my best position is. "I believe I can play anywhere in the midfield and I'm just happy to be playing and hopefully I can get the chance to do that throughout the season." "As long as I'm playing games I'm not really fussed where I play. Like I said, I can play anywhere in midfield, I can play centre-half so obviously it's a good thing to have when you can be a utility player as well." Would Phillips make a good centre back? He is only 5 ft 8 tall. How much of a detrimental effect is that on a centre back? Does this mean that Bielsa doesn't plan on splashing out on another centre back? Perhaps there is a clue from a tweet Phil Hay sent yesterday! Phil Hay@PhilHayYEP It does look like Bielsa thinks he can work with (and improve) a sizeable core of the squad that was here last season. Tonights game v York City is a 7pm kick off. Remember tickets are ONLY available via the Leeds United Ticket Office and website. No tickets for away areas of the ground are on sale at Bootham Crescent prior to the game.
Chile's Gary Medel who played for us in the Prem, at Inter since, and now Besiktas is only 5'8" - CB no problem for him and very few are better at reading a game defensively. Dunno whether Phillips falls into the same category but from what I've seen, his tendancy to make rash decisions giving away free kicks could be a liability in your own box.
Good Morning to Matt and co from a sunny Cote de Bardsey Phillips is far too small for a centre back remember last season Pennington struggled when he was up against the likes of Fletcher although a great CB was Wilbur Cush who out headed John Charles in an international gamed and he was only 5feet .5 inches! Why do we have to go in at the last hour for Josefzoon is it because we are not sure what to offer and so have to wait to see what other clubs offer first Derby are supposed to be skint yet they have got Wilson from Liverpool one we wanted and now this lad from Brentford he will have an abundance of wingers perhaps the powers that be will not have sufficient to offer him..lets hope! We still need a CB and a striker but it would appear we are not going to spend much money when will we ever learn! So another Ekuban and another Pennington is likely surely AR realises he will not fool the fans again he needs a marquee signing NOW
Morning all. John Charles had problems dealing with Charlie Williams and Wilbur Cush neither was six foot. I think Bielsa is better qualified to deal with team selection than any of us.
Good morning Matt All these potential signings are not inspiring, hopefully whoever we sign are decent prospects I have my doubts, it's not as if you see him heading many crosses out of the danger area when we are defending set-pieces You would assume so......season over before it commences if that is the case ! Ticket in my wallet ready to go :-D
Good morning Duke, what a pleasant way to tell people to shut up because they know nothing. You are of course quite correct Bielsa is in a better position than the rest of us to judge a player. I/we do however reserve the right to come down on him like a ton of bricks if he gets it wrong. Almost forgot and a good morning to Elland and all. Always even handed
Don't you love our current owners, most fans do Radz & Co are just like the rest, they are businessman just here to make money without dipping their hands in their pockets
I read somewhere that fans were saying Radz was guilty of fraud, I wonder what lead them to that conclusion.
Walt I worked at the 3 tons in Ingomells in my school holidays and Charlie was the resident comedian I use to talk to him after the pub was closed and I thought he was as big as me 6 feet I used to tell him that he was a dirty player how he kicked big John .He was a really nice guy though and years later I met him again at the Cherry Tree in Leeds .He remembered me from that pub which was nice as he was quite famous by now
Morning 2p. Sorry if it came across as a bit abrupt but I would not tell anyone to shut up we all have our opinions, nor were my remarks aimed at anyone in particular.
Morning Mike. I never met Charlie but I always got the impression he was a decent bloke. I once heard him say he couldn't play football but he stopped a lot that thought they could.
Even though you can't see this I will point out that one of us did learn and did point it out. But you were too busy shooting the messenger (AGAIN).
The same argument could have been made about TC, Redfearn an all the other watermelons. The common denominators are the owners have short arms and the DOF being ****e
