Personally i think we were a tad fortunate last season when Kane was out in that Sonny hit a fantastic purple spot to cover his loss. That was last season, right?
Liverpool are throwing vast sums of money about. They are also paying wages at a level [70%+] that other successful clubs don't, apart from Chelsea. That can't last without significant sales or enormous growth in income or bankrolling by loans. My guess is that they'll sell another 'Coutinho' next summer for big bucks to keep it rolling along. We could sell a Kane or Eriksen and go on a spree but would it be worthwhile?
It is frustrating but it is a hard team to improve. 9 of our squad were playing in the semi finals of the World Cup and the three that were there and didn’t get that far are quality players who would make it into most of the top six squads bar Man City probably. As has been pointed out central midfield is the only real area where we are particularly weak. Perhaps Poch thinks he can get another season out of Demble, or has belief that Winks will come good? A settled squad may actually benefit us you never know. Saying all that I would love a marquee signing!! (I don’t include Grealish in that - sorry DH!)
Sonny’s hit a couple of purple patches so I can’t remember if it was with or without Kane lol. I remember last season, in the time Harry got injured against Bournemouth to where he returned late in the game against Chelsea, we’d hit 10 goals in total against the Cherries, Swansea and Chavs.
And we were smashing everyone, but we still rushed Kane back and he still hasn't recovered, nor did our season.
Don’t worry, mate, I don’t class Super Jack as a marquee signing either but I’m just excited at the prospect of him joining. I watched a lot of him towards the end of last season, long before we became interested and I really enjoyed how he played, absolutely dominates the games since he dropped deeper to CM, now that we’re linked, it’s something I’m looking forward to happening.
Yep, he never looked great in those final few games. Similar with Dele during the World Cup, never looked right after returning from injury, was clear he was playing at less than 50%, Southgate should’ve managed him better.
I thought "the point" you made was that neither team would win trophies without them, I just pointed out that they don't with them.
But pointing that out doesn't change the point i was making in the slightest. It was a superfluous comment made in wummery. I shouldn't need to explain logic to people. Now if you don't mind.....
I'm not sure who we could get as a marquee signing. Who could we get that would go into our first XI that would be considered a marquee player? I think Grealish would play, but as already said he would hardly satisfy most people's idea of "marquee". Our transfer business is difficult. We can't pay players enough so they're willing to be 2nd choice or rotated and it's incredibly difficult to improve our starting XI
Yep, I am out of it mate. I thought the may have hinted it was a bit of fun but don't want to spoil the thread
Ronny has left Madrid now, this is his chance. I doubt he would take a, what, ~£250k per week pay cut to come back to us anyway. If he leaves Madrid i can only see him ending up at Utd or Chelsea, so i hope he stays there.
Regardless of what Liverpool, Chelsea, United, City or Arsenal do Levy and Pochettino deserve a little faith. Three top 4 finishes on the bounce with some stunning football, a fantastic last season at White Hart Lane, an impressive season at Wembley and a brand new ground. I have no idea who we will buy but it is worth remembering that no one expected us to be runners up in 2017 or 3rd last season. In my honest opinion patience is needed.
I'm fine with patience as long as we're confident all our players are gonna be patient. They have a limited career window, they won't hang around for the completion of the project forever like us fans
Mauricio Pochettino turned down Real Madrid to stay. Harry Kane could take his pick of any club in the world. So far, so good, no?
