TRANSFER NEWS UPDATE An offer from an unnamed club has been accepted for Brentford winger Florian Jozefzoon. The 27 year-old right winger had a brilliant season last year, scoring seven goals and assisting on seven more. If this is not Leeds, they will very quickly be lodging a rival bid.
I did indeed watch the game and would say Philips did what he had to. Wasn't spectacular but then nobody else was either. Ayling was very good first half but contained by oppo in second. Felt that beradi looked quite assured but again nothing spectacular. Same with dallas and I thought Cooper was quite solid at the back. I think that just about covers it. Nothing to suggest we will storm the division at this stage but it is early doors
Good afternoon Matt & All The reason BPF's distribution was good is because we had midfielders & defenders wanting for the ball as oppose to turning the backs on him & running up field, Phillips in particular gave him plenty of options to roll the ball out to him Sorry Matt that comment is a little unfair on Ayling. FPR put an extra man on the right flank to combat Ayling's runs, our fans would have been screaming at him if he had bombed forward so much leaving us totally exposed down the flank Not Dallas biggest fan but I thought he was outstanding last night Looked comfortable Very harsh, I thought Phillips & Forshaw bossed the midfield, very impressed with KP Our touch of class Needs to deliver more, came into the game more in the 2nd half Typical Alioski, flattered to deceive, one footed & struggles to go round a League Two full-back Roofe missed four, one in five opportunities taken is not good enough if we want to be successful At least it wasn't Tom Kirwin ;-)
We'll have to agree that I'm right on Phillips......just mucking around Ristac... We'll have to agree to disagree on Phillips. Not sure about Phillips having a football brain, if he has he needs to get it out the ock shop pronto. He goes missing in a lot of matches, and gets caught out of position a lot too. I think Phillips will eventually go same way as that other super star midfielder we had, what's his name, Mogit, Mozart, Mogger, Moggin, or whatever his name was; Phillips just doesn't seem to have that umph, or the ability to go over edge. I know opinions are split on Phillips, but so are the opinions on how he performed against FGR. It's only the first game, and I think Bielsa will be looking for more than what Phillips has to offer. I agree about Vieira, but he too can get caught out of position quite a bit. Also agree about Klich, if he gets his finger out. I think Klich has more to offer than he's been allowed to reveal at moment.....
Im really trying to remain positive and believe we will make a few decent signings but after building up my hopes with Bartley, Vydra, Hernandz and Gunn and seeing us finally capture Bielsa and all the talk of superstar loan deals we so far have just the two loans, a keeper who divides opinion and a midfield player in a position we already have an abundance of. Then I read this about Derby and their two loan deals, Derby a club that has made a move for John Terry a club that already has an abundance of talent and a club that were supposedly in financial trouble: Yesterday Derby County announced the loan signings of two of England’s hottest young talents in the form of Liverpool winger Harry Wilson and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. Wilson is a name in particular who has been heavily linked with plenty of Championship clubs after the 21-year-old’s impressive second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Hull City. The Welsh winger scored seven goals and assisted four more in his 13 appearances in Yorkshire leading to a scramble for his signature. Stoke City were rivalling the Rams closest in the second division with Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers also showing a keen interest, but ultimately, Lampard got his man.
Was watching the goals on a twitter link, a few pointed out that Roofe might have scored a goal but it was going wide and a good job it took the deflection.
I think we already have 2 new signings, Aliosi and Seez, I reckon they must be cousins of Alioski and Saiz.
Pretty poor. Same old same old. No key signings. Will get battered without the quality in our tough start to the season. Forst green also just in preseason and way below us in leagues. Not the start i was looking for. Bielsa needs backing. Body language suggests hes not happy.
A few things surprised me about last night. The most irritating for me was us wearing a Chelscum strip. Why not go the whole hog & wear a scum strip if you really want to upset us? Can't ever remember any club playing their first pre-season without subs. One reason of note for this is that the players are not normally fully fit, so in real danger of pulling muscles late in the game. This showed me that our players are presently fit as fcuk, especially being this early in the season. Can't imagine the same team putting in 90 at York, but who knows with this guy Bielsa. I wonder if Roberts & the new MF chappie haven't yet reached the fitness level he demands. Am so hoping that some of the youngsters get a run out - especially Edmondson. Fingers crossed. Formation - completely lost me. Phil Hay too. Notice he tweeted that he thought we were playing 4-1-4-1, but it was more complex than that. He was right about the complexity. I watched the first half on the lappie & it was Berra that caught my eye at first. Couldn't work out what position he was playing, as he literally kept popping up left, right & centre. Ristac was right about Phillips dropping back to form a 3 at times, but I don't believe anyone's mentioned the work he did closing down. Even Eddie pointed out a number of times that he was first man chasing through their half after the ball, yet he was supposed to be DM. Second half I was reduced to watching it on my phone in a posh restaurant, so not able to pick up on a great deal. Mrs WJ was not impressed, btw. Nor will she be on our first day back home when she wants to visit the grandkids & I'm off to the York match. I've decided to break this to her at the last minute. Saiz troubled me a bit. Still runs with the ball too often & loses possession. Perhaps this is a good this to be encouraged (or simply accepted) by the professionals, but it frustrates me to hell that he misses so many opportunities to lay the ball off. Surprised me that Ally Oazy (as per commentator) was stuck out wide on the left. Not his usual brief. He's normally on the right, with a view to cutting in. He was just played wide left & never once swopped wings with Hernandez. As per game plan, no doubt. Noticed that Ayling cut in a lot in the first half. That was knocked out of him when he came here at first, in favour of him staying wide, but seems to have been resurrected. Looking forward to the next game. No doubt mistakes will have been noted by Bielsa & players informed in no uncertain manner. Not one player disappointed me & it was really great to see them back on the field again. A bit like visiting the grandkids you've not seen for a month. But more important. Only real downside for me, apart from the strip, was the horrible thought that occurred to me during the game. What if the opposition play long ball, and us only playing 2 at the back? No doubt we shall find out soon enough
Only qoting what Boris said and he went to the game with his lad. Dose of reality. In their words not much different from last season against pub standard fitness of forest green. Big lump striker causing cooper problems. Where are our signings?
His demeanour might be a bit drab, but the 2 guys I stood next to drove a 200 mile round trip just to see how he set up the team and his tactics. They are not Leeds fans but are also going to the Derby game to see how he has moved the team on. They are coach and assistant at a none league team.
