I think our team should be based on getting passes or crosses onto the end of a striker, maybe in or near the box. Whether that’s gabbiadini Austin or new chap I don’t really care.

 

Except that if we follow what we’re led to now believe, Les has been moved out of the player recruitment team which is now down to Wilson...

Can't believe some fans are discussing the idea of bringing back Fonte....thankfully much more sensible on here. I like Fonte (once I'd got over his behaviour at the end), but he is past it now and, anyway, just how many CBs do we need. I wouldn't part with any of our present CBs for Fonte (as he is now).

 

FFS we need a striker.

 

3 weeks until the window slams shut...

 

Saints have done really well in this window so far but if they fail to sign a decent striker it would have all been an absolute waste of time.

 

So currently the squad is:

GK - Forster, McCarthy, Gunn, Lewis (u21), Rose

DF - Cedric, Valery (u21), Vestergaard, Yoshida, Bednarek, Hoedt, Stephens, Bertrand, McQueen, Targett

MF - Lemina, Romeu, Davis, Armstrong, Hojbjerg, Clasie, Ward-Prowse, Reed

AM - Boufal, Redmond, Elyounoussi, Hesketh

ST - Long, Austin, Gabbiadini, Gallagher

Think that is it. Looking at the list 2 things stand out to me. Firstly we are still look pretty weak in the creativity and goal scoring department, and secondly we have 29 players that would have to be registered for the 25 man PL squad. So we need to lose at least 4 from that list (not including Lewis or Valery as they are u21 and don't need to be registered).

If we want to bring in a striker or another attacking mid or 1 of each then we need to lose 6 from that list, what would you do? Me it would be

Loan/sell - Forster, McQueen, Clasie, Davis, Boufal, Hesketh, Gallagher and don't register Rose which would leave us with 8 free slots enabling potentially 4 new players. If we aren't planning on playing with 3 CBs as our plan A then I would also look to loan out Stephens.

The bottom line is our squad is massive and we need to get rid of a few before we can bring anyone in

 

Need some more pace in the team. I'm still hopeful that the club will get in someone like Promes or Sisto, but these kind of transfers always seem to take until August to complete?

 

I think losing Forster, Clasie and Boufal is a given. Then I expect us to lose/loan at least one of reed, Mcqueen and/or Gallagher. If we are going to bring in a creative player I would swap for Davis as we dont need another CM so with all due respect i think he's a bit surplus. For a striker would be a swap for either Gallagher or anyone else. I'm not worried about going into a season with 3 strikers if we only plan to use 1 up top though.

Also you forgot Sims . He's u21.

 

Don’t forget that 8 of the 25 must be homegrown, which all but 2 of those you want to lose are. I would definitely keep Gallagher and Hesketh anyway.

 

Yeah but we would still have enough to fill the quota I think. McCarthy, Gunn, Bertrand, Targett, JWP, Reed, Redmond, Austin, Long and maybe even Romeu all count as home grown.

 

Oh yeah I knew I had forgotten someone, but yeah as he is u21 he doesn't need to be registered anyway. I agree about Clasie, Boufal and Forster, but if we want any more additions we are going to need to lose a couple more. Most likely a few of the younger players go out on loan I'd say, but as they are now early 20s some of them may want permanent moves away if they aren't getting game time here.

 

We need a striker and a winger. We needed a winger/attacking wide player/playmaker before the window started, and as it stands we only replaced Tadić with Mo, but also stand to lose Boufal. Hopefully it won't be another season of Redmond.


We will probably play 3 at the back, in that case Cedric is a poor choice for a wing back. In that system wing back need to chip in with goals and assists, not with shots to the roof and crosses to the opposite corner flag.

 

I'd like two attacking players ideally but am confident we'll get at least one.

 

We also have to make room for Geoff Cameron, probably Lemina's replacement

 

True, one out of two wouldn't be too bad. But, I suspect, that some movement out is now the most important aspect; allowing any incoming (later on, of course!) to be worked on over the remainder of this window.

 

They could be twins! Get lost if anyone thinks Cameron is in the same league as Lemina - although he might be more consistent

Still don’t think he’s all that good of a keeper tbh for that price.

 

Although I like the business we've done, if we don't bring in any more attacking players it's still a poor window, and that's just because we've left ourselves so much to do having come up short over the last few windows. At the absolute minimum we need one more attacking player. Ideally a striker and a winger.
