Any of you boys big FMers? If so I assume you will be playing as Charlton. Any ideas/plans for what you would try to get done, in that the squad will already be in place before the summer has even begun?

Have been buying the Football Manager series since it first came out Japan - Has been made brilliant with the Leagues you yourself can now add and will either play as Charlton / Welling or Hailsham down in the Sussex League.

There isnt a Release Date as yet (they're saying Xmas time so I wouldnt be surprised if it was mid-Nov) - Doesnt get made on the Xbox now only PC / PSP and iPhone

If i had to choose one game i'd ever have it would be FM. I love it and can't wait for the new one. Even though charlton have already brought in like 17 new players i'll still probably bring in like 4 or 5 or my own you know put my own stamp on the squad ;)

Belvedere, only 4 or 5? I generally terminate the contracts of all staff and bring in 15 new players <laugh>

I love FM. So addictive. But I never play with Charlton or a Premier League side. I imagine that in real life I have won the lottery and bought a football club of my own. I do this either in the Conference North/South or a footballing hinterland such as Finland or Scotland.

My greatest campaign was with Lewes who I managed to get into League 2 after four seasons. I even turned the Dripping Pan into a 8,500 all seater stadium and had sell-outs in the 3rd and 4th rounds of the FA Cup against Everton and Ipswich respectively.

The funniest thing is how often my missus has caught me conducting press conferences in the kitchen or while I'm in the bath etc. I also have a notepad next to the bed in case I think of some tactical masterplan in the middle of the night.

Am I sad? Or do you guys do the same sort of thing?

I got FM2008 on a friday, I said to Missy at about 7:00pm that I would just go onto the computer to install the game, so I set up Welling and noticed they had a poor squad so thought I would just change a few players and set up some PS friendlies. After the sixth regular season game (with Welling top of BS South) I thought I'd make Missy a cup of tea <ok> ? to my surprise she was in bed??? I was confused???? I decided to take the dog into the garden for his pre-bed whizz......... it was 5:30 am

Missy didn't talk to me much the next day... then again... I had other things on my mind.

Many hours have been spent on that game, I rarely do well with Charlton, but this year will be different.

Ponders I have a tactics book/Word document of scouted players.

I even used to have a lucky black Nike jumper akin to Cloughie that I had to wear whilst playing.

I've found Charlton too difficult to manage on the last 2 editions - FM hates us!

Normally go for someone like Orient or Brentford - I can't manage Northern teams...

    That is great, Kish.

It's funny you mention the northern team thing. For the sake of realism, I always pick a side in a location where I could happily live. So normally a Sussex/Kent side or if it is the BSN I will choose a Lincolnshire or Gloucestershire side.

The club I decide to raise from the ashes has to be just right.

I may go for the suited an booted Chrissy Powell approach this season - Then my players will respect me...

I take it way too seriously though. I hate Steve Bruce in real life because his over aggressive Bolton side once injured 6 of my players seriously (Bolton only got a solitary booking!?)

i loved FM 2011, i somehow scraped Charlton out of league one via play-offs in the 1st season, spent 3 years building a team in the championship and won the title with 92 points, then managed to survive in the prem and by 2018 clained two 7th place finishes, but still did shockingly bad in the cups, they got our number!!

Yeah only 4 or 5 in first season because it frustrates me when it takes the players a whole season to gel as a team and playing the way i want. I usually play like 10 plus friendlies with 4 against the youth team to get morale up and the team to gel.

My best game was on Fm 2010 i got welling into the prem and stayed up finishing 14th. I had an old Vidic and the back and the wise head of Robin Van persie up top. The Board also decided to build the welling areana a 20,000 all-seater stadium, guess that was built on top of danson park as theres no where else for it to go! I say thats my best game i have won the champions league 3 times in 4 years with burnley. I wish it was more realistic sometimes.

Yeah I always have a major sort out of players when I join a club. My best game was Dover (I think it was the 2010 version) and only 1 player that they started played in the first season (and that was due to injuries). Managed to get consecutive promotions from Blue square south - league one then spent 2 seasons there to get to the championship and two seasons in the championship to get to the premier league and after two seasons in there I was still finishing just outside the relegation players and having all my best players sold out from me and getting annoyed at the lack of progress. May have to go back to that one some time, see if I can finish the story with a trophy or two. Fav player in there I picked up on a free at 16 in my first season and he was still a bit part player for me in the premier league.

Been playing since championship manager 3!! Downloaded it via steam last year and was dying to see the stats they had given our squad.. Noticed it was bad so started playing at work, giving myself till 10am.

So I signed a few players, now I just had to see if it worked so played some more friendlies. Kept losing, so right, I needed a league game to see if it would be an issue there. Won the first 3 or so(Inc league cup) but still wasn't satisfied, so continued forward to sept 1st (transfer deadline day), where I pulled off a gem with Chris smalling on loan. Now before I go in to further detail, I basically played the entire day at work and had some serious catch up on Monday.

    The game is evil.

    <laugh> great stuff lads...

I've not really played Football Manager. Back in the day i used to loose days of my life on Championship Manager.

I remember the late Dean Richards was immense on that game. He was more often than not my first signing and the first name on the team sheet.

Being a massive fan/follower of Italian footbal i particulary enjoyed the Championship Manager Italia version. My Milan side was simply amazing Richards and Baresi was a formidable CB pairing <laugh>.

Have to be honest and say I've never played a full FM game (had a demo a few years back) its all about FIFA manager mode for me, I can only win when I play as the team, I couldn't manage my way out of a paper bag!
