I don't know if it is true, but there are rumours tonight that MPs will be sent off on their holidays this Thursday instead of next week.

Well, thank you I will - but there is no call for a peace offering as such. I have enjoyed an exchange of views and know we will never agree - but I hope one day to paint you into a corner - but you are a slippery customer :)

  5. It was going to be early next week anyway. I always book my holidays during recess as it means there's less chance of coming back to a mess. :)

Be careful Leo. SH has told us that he no longer buys anything from the EU. His bottle of Chianti might come from the Isle of Dogs or Turkey. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

The PMs feeble underhanded attempt to bounce the UK into a half in / half out Brexit has floundered by lack of support in parliament to the annoyance of the rabid europhiles. The government caved in to the demands of the ERG and many others by supporting the four amendments to the customs bill. Most now agree May's plan is 'dead in the water'.

Apart from a complete reset there does not seem to be any possibility of an agreement with the EU.

TM shot herself in the foot with last year's election gamble which failed spectacularly.
There is now no majority for any form of brexit nor to remain. What a total shambles.

A week ago the government produced their document from Chequers, which was welcomed by the EU as at long last something that showed just what it was the UK wanted. So now that document is being altered and once again the EU will be able to ask who are we talking to if important papers are going to be changed on a daily basis. Both parties to the talks have been talking about intensifying discussions, something that is very difficult when one side is unable to produce a plan and stick to it.
Meanwhile our new Brexit Secretary has set a summer drinks party ahead of getting out to the talks and getting to know the people involved, while Parliament is sent on holiday so that anything important that arises will not be discussed by them. As Leo says, "What a total shambles".

A 'total shambles' it is, but it was always going to be that way. With 3 camps existing - the hard Brexiteers, the 'only in name' Brexiteers who want to satisfy the conditions of the referendum but change as little as possible (drawn from both camps of the original debate), and the out and out remainers. None of which groups has a majority. It has become very clear that the expression 'Brexit means Brexit' so beloved by TM and SH actually does have different meanings. We could however end up with a hard Brexit by default - ie. nothing happens = hard Brexit, but end up with a Reasonably socialistic Labour government - in which case Hard Brexit could go in a direction which Bojo and Farage never dreamed of. It could be, as a result of all this mess, that we never again have a Tory majority in the UK. which would, for me, be the only consolation.

Today the EU and Japan will sign the free trade deal, which will create an open trade zone covering nearly a third of the worlds GDP and reaching a market of 600 million people. Why doesn't the UK wish to be part of this, and what implications does it have for the Japanese companies that have used the UK as their gateway into Europe up until now?

All free trade deals the EU currently have can easily be replicated and /or rolled over to continue trading with the UK.

There was an appetite to punish May for her skullduggery last week by a boost for the Labour Party but this will be short lived. The UK turned away from socialism in 2010 and has shown no desire to return, especially with the present Momentum led leadership.

The Tories are the natural party for governance of the UK and will continue unless new parties are created based on Brexit lines.

With the massive potential for spite from the EU it was never going to be easy, but well worth it.

    That was not the question.
The question was in response to your post that does not involve the EU:All free trade deals the EU currently have can easily be replicated and /or rolled over to continue trading with the UK. Unless you are telling me the EU have to be involved in that?
