My heartfelt congratulations to you and your wife. Knowing a little of what you both have been going through it makes it a very special event. I hope that your few days away are are a joy for you both. Don't forget to set up the watering system though. Mme has one in her greenhouse that saves her lots of work, whereas it is not possible for my veggies, it is a watering can for me. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Morning all from a warm island. I should still be in bed, but I thought I heard someone knocking on our front door, so got up as I knew I wouldn't get back to sleep - I'll probably fall asleep this afternoon watching the Final, whether it's dull or exciting.

Mex, bananas also work well on a BBQ, but you have to use the residual heat when you've finished everything else, and they have to be wrapped in tin foil. Unfortunately, I can't give any further details, such as how you know that they're ready to eat, as I only had them when my ex-father-in-law cooked them.

Morning all, another lovely summer morning, but the forecasters say that maybe we will have some rain tomorrow. It is my monthly dinner day today, but instead of our usual date at the restaurant we are going to the smallholding that one of our group own. We did this last year, having a superb picnic type meal, and with a group of musicians from London joining us, they are here for a series of concerts, I am really looking forward to it. Only thing to remember is the clock as I wish to see if France can actually win the Cup again.

Thanks - and you are right. Afraid the plants are going to have to get on with it for a few days but the school holidays start here on Friday so I fully expect rain :)

Morning all, we have some rain. I put off watering last night in the hope that the forecasters would be right, and for once they are correct. Quite how much there will be remains to be seen as it is only likely to last until midday. I had a text last night from my daughter who was on her way from here to the Swiss border. It took her much longer than expected due to all the crowds out on the streets of the towns she passed through celebrating the World Cup win. As I watched the final scenes with the two leaders of the nations getting a thorough soaking, I did wonder who we would have sent if England had made it through to the final.

Can we have some please, I'm fed up with watering the shrubs, a couple have died already. I left the hose on by mistake last night for a few hours, large water bill next time.

Morning all, bright and breezy describes the weather here today, but also the mood of the nation. I remember how England winning the World Cup brought a sense to the country that things were on the up. The scenes in Paris yesterday were quite amazing with the lighting effects and fireworks. The French are very good at celebrating success, or just celebrating for the fun of it.

The Paris celebrations turned into a violent riot, looting, water cannons and tear gas, over 100 arrested. In Lyon 30 arrested. Not the normal idea of fun.
