Good reason for Shane to never leave.

Maybe we will buy one who can score goals. Its possible they will be annoying to defenders as well if you want to feel better about losing Shane :emoticon-0128-hi:

And yet everyone is so keen to keep Gabbi, who neither scores goals nor 'annoys' defenders.

Except two at Wembley and a slightly important one at Swansea,

The Telegraph reporting that Arsenal will be carrying out a major clear out of their squad this summer, apart from others, Danny Welbeck anyone?

He's scored more goals at St Marys in the past few years than most of our strikers :)

Indeed he has that's why I would be interested in him coming into our team as a JRod type striker probably with a little more of everything than Jay tbh
Sure there are some decent prospects that are going to be moved out of Arsenal

And who doesn't look like much in a formation that lobs dead end balls over the top of a back line with no follow up support. Shane may thrive chasing lost causes and not scoring but we shouldn't judge all our players by his standards.

I can understand why some fans appreciate Long's willingness and work rate. I do, but but I'm in the camp that believes strikers need to score goals first and foremost, the ability to run down the clock and earn freekicks should be a secondary aspect. Nothing to discuss really, you either value him or you dont.

Fair enough, but what does Gabbi offer? (As a comparison of course. I want to keep both of them for what it's worth)

I'm not having the whole 'starved of service' response either. We still created a fair amount of opportunities, and a good striker should be able to create their own anyway.

We could even throw Austin into the mix. Sure he scores penalties here and there, but is it worth keeping hold of someone who is so injury prone?

At least Long's fitness is fairly reliable.

None of our strikers are particularly good.

I am in the camp that if Gabbi got regular, good service he would score goals. The reality is that he won't get that service consistently unless he is playing for a top team, so for a team like Saints he isn't the answer to the goal scoring issues.

Austin is injury prone and whilst he can score goals he can't be relied on due to injuries and when he isn't putting the ball in the back of the net he doesn't offer much else, if we were looking to sell a forward he would be the one I would get rid of if I were in charge.

Long is Long. Everyone knows what he offers with his work rate, it is simply a question of whether or not you rate that sort of player. Again seeing as we don't have anyone who scores all that regularly he isn't the answer to that problem.

What we need is a quick forward who can hopefully get us 10-15 goals a season, doesn't get injured and can create everything himself and we will be sorted.

Gabbi is a typical fox in the box Striker and plays on the shoulder of the last defender, get the ball in the right areas and he WILL score. If he plays, the team should be looking to get to the byline and cross the ball low and play through passes beyond the defence (something that Pellegrino's teams rarely did).

Shane has many admirable qualities, but a regular quality finisher he is not. Give him and Gabbi the same chances in front of goal and Gabbi would finish them more often than Shane IMO.

*I also want to keep them both for squad variety btw.

    Just checked Wiki...

Shane scores about 1 in 6 games and Gabbi scores in about 1 in 4.

Just imagine, after two years of absolute dreadful scoring records, that we found the key this time around. Maybe a pairing that brings out the best in two of the guys. Big Sam knocking it on for Gabbi to poach. Or Sam & Shane, different qualities that bring others into the game in an attacking sense. Just imagine Austin not getting injured in November! The possibilities are endless!

Liverpool bid 62 million for Allison - they could probably get Fraser for half that!

That should wipe Karius's smug face of social media for 24 hours!
