Ashton and LJ's tenure will look very interesting when they finally leave.
£35million has come in to the City coffers since their appointments from signings they had nothing to do with. So far we've lost millions with their dud and crock signings, Djuric being the latest.
Things can only get better, can't they ?

Yep, but we are still competing in one of the best leagues in Europe...where as many other managers have taken us down....think you might be forgetting that RP!

1For, yes other managers have taken us down from the 2nd tier.
Also know that no other has ever had £35/40million to play with.
We've had a once in a life time windfall of money that you and I have never seen at AG.
As yet I believe he, and Ashton tbf, haven't bought well and for every City fan I hope he improves as I worry we'll ever be in this position again.

I think the prices you are quoting are just part and parcel in football to get by in this division.....Just look at the zillions spent in the prem.
You have a point, that it feels we haven't progressed as quickly as most hoped, but I believe it's not easy just getting in players willy nilly and expecting the team to instantly gain promotion..
We all still don't know if LJ is the right man to get us where we want to be, but he's young, hungry, intelligent and had us playing really well first half of last season.....Think he's still owed a bit of time RP. Not sure we are yet in a position for someone else to come in and undo the work that's been done..
We need another good start to the season, as a early relegation battle will surely be the end of his tenure..

Cardiff didn't spend a great deal of money to get promoted did they ?

But they did have a Manager who knew what he was doing and knew how to get the best out the players at his disposal,

Yeah, but most City fans hate and didn't want him here as well!

Warnock is a very very good manager at this level. The fact he winds people up is irrelevant but his record is not.
I agree with Onefor that he would not be accepted - just like Pulis or Holloway wouldn’t - despite both of those having taken clubs to the Prem on a budget - and Pulis managing to stay in there for years.
LJ is hardly the people’s choice either but I don’t think even he endured quite a vitriol that those others would as soon as they lost a game.

If it goes tits up this season R&W you might see vitriol like you've never seen.

And I'm not so sure most City fans wouldn't have preferred a man with numerous promotions to an ex player with a pathetic CV who divided the City fan base then and still.

Being so far from the real action and gossip makes me a little adrift in the reality department and as such probably gives me a different slant on things. Is it my imagination or are we constantly coming up with a new and improved plan to get wherever we want to be and then appear to fall apart somewhere during a 3-5 year period? We can harp on it all we want and come up with our individual reasons as to why it did not happen, and last season was probably a classic example of where we go wrong, and yet we constantly have the same issues reappear under different managers at different times. I am beginning to believe that we don't have a manager problem but a Bristol City problem that doesn't seem to want to go away and until that issue, whatever it may be, is addressed I think we may see a diminished ability to attract the right people that will stick around for the long term.

    Perhaps it's all about control?

Will you guys please stop talking about Cardiff and Warnock on this thread!! - you'll get wiz in a tiz again.........<laugh>

Only joking wiz. The problem is it's difficult to instruct posters what to talk about on a thread, even if it's not what you want. <ok>

If I'm honest, even though I like Colin as a character and he does know the championship like the back of his hand.. I'd still prefer LJ or equivalent as an up and coming and up with the times (style) manager..Let me see, Warnock's style v LJ's first 4 months last season for entertainment...mines the latter...even if it is in the championship.....I mean, who's gonna be staying up to watch the last game on match of the day next season?......I'd rather watch Love Island!!

Fair play 1For, but what about the final 4 months of last season ?
Warnock might be last on M O D next season but at least he's on there - we won't.
    As for Love Island .....

Colin spent the same amount as LJ, and only then because he blew £6M on Madine.

Warnock has a game plan (not to everyone's taste) and knows the type of player he needs to execute that game plan and how to get them to deliver, even off the back of a 4 game losing streak.

LJ talks a good game plan and the first half of the season executed on it. The problem was, when you had a wobble he didn't know how to get out of it. Did he lose confidence, belief from the players or did he panic into changing?

Hopefully, with that experience filed away, he'll have a better overall season this time round and deal with the difficult times better.

But if/when we do get there, hopefully it will be the type football people (not just us fans) will enjoy..I'd rather an entertaining relegation dog fight than a lump ball, kick seven bails of crap sort.......not sure that's in Colin's DNA.

We still managed to give up 2 goals in the late running again so at least everything is back in order for the new season. Duh?
