I can't see that it was a deliberate handball. First off his view was blocked by the French player and secondly his eyes were closed when the ball approached and hit his hand. Not a free kick either leading to the first French goal. I usually pick one side to win when I watch sport as a neutral but couldn't care less about this one. Can they both lose?
Good game though, and got to respect the Croats for their spirit and commitment. France have got some great players but they are a very cagey, cautious team, not surprising with Deschamps as their coach. They are also very lucky and have been throughout the tournament.
A great piece on analysis delivered by Rio prior to the game itself, showing overhead footage of how quick Sterling and Mbappe are to balls played into forward space for them to run onto, but how the other three England forward players fail to hare off after Sterling, meaning he’s pretty much isolated with the ball and has little option but to play it back from whence it came, or lose it. Pogba’s goal just now once again illustrated how the French attack get there fast to support Mbappe and how goals come of it.
Personally I don’t think they should allow the substitutes to run onto the pitch to join in with goal celebrations. Book ‘em, Danno.
