Just wanna put this out there to see what anyone thinks: Brexit was engineered to bring about a situation where Britain could deregulate further in order to take the country yet closer to the state of being of a tax haven. What do you all think about that? Bear in mind, there is more to tax havens than having low or no tax. It's also about balance of industry, law, regulation, workers rights, etc.
The main culprits for the sabotage of brexit are the Tories themselves. They are in charge of leaving and negotiating that deal. It's not Labour or the lib dems, nor is it remainers or infact leave voters. It is the conservatives. They have made a complete mess of this, totally lied to the 52% or at least the majority of them. Can always trust the Tories though hey. Strong and stable my arse! Pathetic and weak more like.
I can't say if it was deliberately engineered or not. Without evidence it's just speculation. What is certainly being talked about is that there is EU legislation coming into play in 2019, but after we've left, which will require offshore money to be exposed a bit more transparently than it is today. A concern that Brexit-supporting oligarchs and non doms will be happy to avoid. You know, like newspaper and TV station owners. There are no plans for the UK to do the same.
That is explicitly what Johnson, Gove and Fox wanted, though they would stress deregulation rather than tax haven. I don’t think they hid their objectives, though they added a lot of stuff around it (none of these blokes wanted massive curbs on immigration though), so we have to assume that the 52% at least accepted this potential outcome and thought it was worthwhile. I can’t see a conspiracy. The current deal being proposed would not deliver it.
One of the key signs of a tax haven is that the financial services industry is placed above and outweighs all others. That happened ages ago when Maggie "the ****" Thatcher and Ronald Reagan set off the financial big bang.
How can you say that without knowing my reasoning? What is your reasoning for saying that the UK is far from one of the most corrupt?
By the way, to anyone interested, this book will completely change the way you look at this country: http://treasureislands.org/the-book/
According to the International Corruption Index, we are in fact the 10th least corrupt nation out of 176 rated. They use a recognised analytical process to make this judgement. What evidence do you have to place us at the other end of the spectrum? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_Perceptions_Index
My reasoning is that although this country isn’t perfect (far from it) and that I agree, there is corruption that takes place wilfully......to say that it is worse here than most, if not all countries in Africa, South and Central America is quite honestly ludicrous.
This is why people like Trump call it 'Fake news' (although he uses it when he can't answer a question). People just come out with figures that are simply not true....unlike the 250,000 demonstrators that marched against Trump in London so they are saying.
Please correct me Ellers if possible. I was under the impression the Tories were in government and therefore were the party in charge of delivering brexit. The in house fighting has made this a complete mess.
The bloke who wrote this, Nicholas Shaxson, doesn’t understand his own arguments. He loves countries like Finland, Sweden and Denmark, which do very well on the corruption index and aren’t considered tax havens. They are indeed progressive places and there is much to be admired in them. But they compete for international financial business as much as anywhere else and they don’t tax business or capital very highly. They tax people instead. Which I have no problem with.
Not necessarily .The Tories are in power and the Tories dominate the cabinet and number of MPs. Whose fault is it if it isnt the party in power?
