I've seen this on the Hoops forum and was interested to know our reaction. Given a direct choice between Watford winning the league (or Cup) and England winning the World Cup (or Scotland depending on origins) which would you choose ? Polls on this have indicated that 60% + of premiership fans choose club over country.

  2. Club - can you imagine what it would be like if we made another cup final and actually won it? We've all invested huge amounts of our time in this club - it would be phenomenal. This year hopefully :)

  3. Oh and you need to include Iceland, Ireland and a few others after Scotland I think ;)

Sorry about that Dan, I did of course mean 'any other national loyalties' - in my case it would be Scottish origins but of course Ireland, Iceland should get a mention as well.

There would be a sense of national pride if England won something but you almost feel part of it more if your club wins something.

I was lucky to see England win the World cup on the TV and the best day of my life was having all my kids with me at Cardiff ,So if i had to pick it would be 100% Watford

Club every time. I only have an interest in national sides if they have a Watford player in them. To be fair sometimes an ex-Watford player will do, such as Switzerland or Nigeria. Failing a Watford connexion I want the underdog to win.

Club every time. Too much emotional, financial and time investment for it to be otherwise!

I have a slightly different perspective on this from what has happened in the Channel Islands. Jersey are trying to become a member of UEFA in their own right, and are failing as they're not an independent nation (the rules were changed after Gibraltar were accepted, but the JFA put their application in before then, but even CAS has said no). Guernsey realised that they could never be accepted as a full member of UEFA, so decided to form a club and enter them in the English pyramid, and they've done quite well, already promoted at least a couple of times in about 5 years but they've decided not to take part in the FA Cup in 2018-19 as the cost was too much - any "home" replays had to be played at their oppositions ground. There is quite a popular opinion here that we should follow Guernsey's example, but until the JFA get their heads out of their arses and see the big picture, it'll never happen. That's a roundabout way of saying club for me.
