At my peak I used to watch about 35 hours a week of tele. Nowadays it is not so much but with cable tele you could watch the gogglebox 24/7, there is nothing you could not find to watch. In no particular order, my favourites were as follows:- Auf Wiedersehen Pet Minder Only Fools and Horses Love Thy Neighbour
TV shows that I thought were really good (or at least watchable) at the time but are now embarrassingly bad... 1. Rentaghost 2. The tomorrow People 3. Metal Mickey 4. Noel Edmonds' Multi-Coloured Swap Shop 5. Sale of the Century 6. The Black and White Minstrel Show 7. The Professionals 8. The Flashing Blade 9. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century 10. Russ Abbot's Madhouse TV shows I always hated - and time has not mellowed my opinion... 1. Terrahawks 2. Noel's House Party 3. 3-2-1 4. Ludwig 5. Crossroads 6. Love Thy Neighbour 7. Keeping Up Appearances 8. Sorry 9. Little Britain 10. TFI Friday TV shows I used to like, but were then ruined by make-overs / new versions / just going on far too long... 1. Scooby Doo 2. Tom and Jerry 3. The Bill 4. Only Fools and Horses 5. Red Dwarf 6. Blue Peter 7. Minder 8. Tomorrows World 9. Blankety Blank 10. The Generation Game TV shows I have always loved, and always will... (excluding the ridiculous recent re-makes in some cases) 1. Porridge 2. The Sweeney 3. Doctor Who (1963 - 1980) 4. Dad's Army 5. Out of Town 6. Morecambe and Wise 7. Fawlty Towers 8. Till death us do part (& In sickness and in health) 9. The Young Ones (& Bottom) 10. Quatermass 11. Life on Mars / Ashes to Ashes 12. Cracker 13. Thunderbirds
TV's too bland nowadays. BBC used to give a chance to young unknown talent, but now they are too afraid of doing anything controversial. The likes of Dennis Potter and Alan Bleasdale have been replaced by endless murder mysteries, always with a famous actor like Nicola Walker to get the ratings. And don't get me started on comedy..........................................................
As well as enjoying Grandad, I also like watching Antiques Roadshow. I’ve always found it easy to spot fakes.
You missed Blakes's Seven in the first batch Lardi - had you done that I would have concurred nearly 100%. Having said which, I picked up a fawlty Towers box set the other day, and sat stony faced through three episodes before giving up. I tried it on my daughters on the assumption it may appeal to a more childish mentality, but also zilch. Give me Black Adder any day. Speaking of which, where is Captain Black addick?
