That was one of my favourite deals ever. I remember being in the front room just about to walk into the kitchen to grab a drink and then boom, the SSN reporter was like "And developing news from Tottenham, they're after a World Cup finalist!" and I swear to God I shouted "surely not VDV?!" as he was the only viable player I could think of as Spain's lads were practically settled at Barca/ Real, while Holland's didn't have too much we'd likely be after and I remember reading that VDV's move to Bayern the day before collapsed. Crazy final hour... Loved it though, loved Rafa, too!

You get it now Dee <ok>

I remember one summers day in the 90's waking up to a picture of Klinsmann on Sugar's yacht in Monaco

    After that it was VDV?

Doesn't happen often enough for me to harbour hope of any miracles.

Ossie and Ricky signing takes some beating. It changed everything. I heard it on the radio and couldn't believe it...........honestly, straight up thought it was some sort of practical joke until I saw black and white pictures of Keithy and Ossie and Ricky in The Standard that night.

    At school that morning.....

    Another one bites the dust.......

    BREAKING NEWS

Borussia Monchengladbach have completed the signing of Nice striker Alassane Plea.

The 25-year-old, who was linked with Newcastle, has signed a five-year-deal with the German club.

Levy would have been lynched on twitter, so probably just as well...........plus, we're signing Martial. He's the one.

There are only so many more windows we can console ourselves with this. As time passes it's beginning to look like an exception.

Are we really unhappy with our transfer business, given that we haven't had the money of other clubs? Whenever we've had decent money, we've gone out and spent it. That's actually where our problems have started.

The actual problem has been that most of the players we've spent big money on have been failures. Sissoko, Lamela, Soldado, Vinnie, Darren Bent and Paulinho are in our Top 10. Whereas Dele, Bonzo, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, etc. cost **** all.

The five Spurs players in the England squad cost us less than Darren Bent.

I would not call Lamela a failure. He is not what we thought we were getting, but he has been a very important player for us. He is the one who seems to understand urgency. In addition he upset wheelchair!

This summer, to date ?? Yes.

I trust Pochettino to take the current squad and finish top 3 in the PL.
I am looking for the signing(s) that will take us to PL winners.

I'm looking for anything that stops people spamming our Twitter with the same "SIGN SOME PLAYERS" memes they were using last year...

This is why I'm very much in the pro-Grealish boat. Young, English, great potential and in this inflated market won't cost much at around £15m+ (equivalent to about £5m-£7m pre-huge TV deal).

I've still firmly stated I think we'll make big moves in the market and I stand by that but chances are someone like Grealish will end up becoming the best buy of the lot because he'll have the least expectation but (hopefully) go on to prove a lot doubters wrong. Think under Poch, so long as he remains fit and buys into the methods/ regime, he'll be nailed on for the Euro 2020 squad, arguably could've done with someone like him during the WC.

You're going to be so disappointed if Levy doesn't pull the trigger!

A lot of blogs are writing how Poch sees some combination of Winks & Grealish filling in the Dembele-shaped hole our midfield looks likely to have.

I think it's their backhanded way of saying they don't expect us to sign Ndombele/Rabiot/Kovacic...

<laugh>. You should know me by now, Bob, I'm a relentless ****, if I believe in something/ someone, I'm backing them 100% until I'm proven correct... Or made to look a complete a fool.

Can't deny though, I'm feeling pretty smug about Trippier, had to win a few fans over on this board, lol.

    :).

I'm still not sure on trippier. he's proved himself as a very good player and he's consistent. I think he'd be in the team of the world cup with the tournament he has had.

However, he's a bit like Alonso to me. Loads of people rate him. He's consistent, bags of energy and has end product. I don't deny he'll be an 7-8/10 player every game but put him up against the best and he will get shut down.

Think Trippier is a little like that as well in that, he rarely runs past his man and he can't beat him for pace or power. Fantastic delivery and balls going forward though.

Trippier as well as alonso won't be able to defend 1 on 1 against the top wingers imo but as long as he's adequately backed up he'll be fine.

Maybe i'm being tough on both as there aren't any ashley coles or lilian thuram fullbacks who you know will shut down a winger by themselves.

I'd agree with most of that but over the past 12 or so months, Trippier's defending has gotten insanely good. Last season alone he got the better of Coutinho, Hazard, Sanchez and even Ronaldo. He's a lot smarter as a defender than what Walker was for us but Walker's speed allowed him to more often than not make amends for his mistakes and he also had the ability to beat a man and draw defenders out of position, whereas Tripps is more about understanding when and when not to get forward, like you say he doesn't really beat a man but so long as Eriksen and co find him in space, he won't need too as his crossing is next level. He's also a very underrated leader in our team, I get to see it quite a lot as my seat is to the right of the goal so for 45 mins Tripps is the player mostly in my view, very vocal guy and we're a side that doesn't have too many leaders.

There's a gay bloke on another website, he's a MUCH bigger fan of Grealish than Dier Hard.....MUCH, MUCH Bigger. Fair made me blush he did.

Given the above, this made me laugh out loud.
