Sir Alf Ramsey (posthumously) your 1966 team are still the greatest England team ever, and I was honoured to see them actually win the World Cup, (albeit on the tele and in black and white) yes against the Germans. You said in an interview, you loathed the media, that England would win it, you never minced your words when you called the Argentines 'Animals', you may have said the same about the Columbians this time around. As extra time beckoned you forbade the England team to sit on the pitch, you didn't want to show the Germans how tired you may be, you sat through it all with the dignity that has long gone from todays teams and no matter how much money has flooded into the game, and the shameful antics that have gone with it, we have never emulated your fete. Sir, I salute you, for it now seems, despite the hype, that your team will still be the only team to win the World Cup, and despite all the sniping to the fact that it was over 50 years ago I saw it, and despite football seemingly being on the tele 24hrs a day I have yet to witness that euphoria ever again, close a couple of times, but your teams win is still the top of the pile for English football, again I salute you.

Nah it can't have been as good as that point we got at home against Stoke under Bruce.

Actually Bob we had a couple of momentous games against Stoke, Gordon Banks in goal for them, Waggy scoring 2 and all that, but I was more impressed by a ginger hair right winger of slight build. Terry Conroy played havoc that day and to me was the main reason that we lost. I think Tony Waddington was the manager of Stoke at the time and he put together a lot of aging, but still good players of the day, great match as well.
