Super Jacky Grealish is (hopefully) on his way. Strong links with Rabiot, Malcom and Barrios. City have just signed Mahrez which is probably the first signing of the summer so far that’s made me think “****, they’ve got stronger”. No one else has done anything truly substantial in my eyes.
Jacky Grealish? Is that the extent of our ambitions going into what could arguably be one of the best stadiums in Europe, let alone the league? Strong links.... heard that before and it rarely ever comes to anything. As usual, we leave our business far too late and look foolish for it.
One of the best talents our country has to offer is a bad signing? Let’s be honest, if his name was Grealishinho most would be dribbling down themselves in anticipation and excitement. No one has made any substantial signings yet with perhaps Mahrez to City aside, really don’t understand the panic and worry.
No, that is the extent of his. OTOH I am trying to recalibrate what recent events mean for the return of Bale. Does the departure of CR7 now mean Bale is the heir apparent ?? Will Perez attempt to sate their ingrate fickle supporters by attempting another "galatico" signing (Hazard etc) that means Bale is now no better / worse off than before in the pecking order ??
Either that or they sign one of those PSG players they said they were definitely not interested in signing in any way, shape or form - which was so un-Ladrones-like it sounded even more suspect than the usual Marca tap-up job...
No but if he's another "one for the future" who warms the bench for most of next season, with us fans asking when's he going to get a run out (Lucas Moura anyone?), then what is he adding for the here and now? Our squad needs leadership desperately. Quality that will bolster our midfield and give us someone who'll lift the team when in the past, performances have dropped at key moments. Youthful prospects are great for 2-3 years time if they blossom but not if you're hoping to progress in both the CL, Pl and domestic cups next season. If he turns out to be another Dele Alli, I'll eat my words but I seriously doubt it.
The thing with Grealish is that, as things stack up, the most likely spot for him in the squad is Son's understudy on the left wing - which means two things: GKN's leaving this summer as he's Son's current understudy, and Grealish may get a run of games in the early season due to Son being at the Asian games Luckily that doesn't seem to be as much of a square peg for a round hole as it sounds, because here's how his appearances for Villa stack up Attacking midfield: 82 appearances Left wing: 64 appearances Right wing: 16 appearances Central midfield: 2 appearances Left back: 1 appearance ...so if he's brought in as Rose's replacement, don't blame me!
In general our best signings have been “ones for the future”. Grealish may be young but he’s also massively experienced for his age, he’s the main man at a massive club, basically carried Villa to near promotion. He won’t be coming to Spurs being happy to just play in cup games, he’s gonna wanna get into that XI as often as he can. Someone like him will have an eye on the England 2020 squad and I think that’ll work out a massive bonus for us should he sign as he’ll be desperate to impress. FWIW I really do think we’ll sign some top players, it would make a lot of sense to do so to go with the new stadium along with going along with what Poch said about taking risks but it wouldn’t surprise me if Grealish (providing he signs) turns out to be one of the best bits of business for us this summer.
https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/6-reasons-tottenham-not-made-14894222 Kind of makes it hard for squad players who have ambitions to play in the CL.
So now the CR7 to Juve deal has been completed, is that going to start the ball rolling around Europe? Or at least around N17?
Who knows ?? I guess it depends on how afraid Perez is of a fickle ingrate fan backlash if Madrid win sod-all in the first post CR7 season. Also, unless their targets have been doing behind the scenes merc stuff, IMHO 3 weeks will not be enough for their standard state-sponsored unsettling machine to have the desired effects.
As I mentioned in another thread, there's an obvious attempt by the Spanish press to drive a wedge between Mbappe and Neymar, with El Pais leading the charge. This obviously has nothing to do with said wedge leading to a potential transfer request...
Seri to Fulham is a done deal. Another one to cross off the list. I think 1 or 2 people on here will be pretty pissed off about that!
Chelsea must be fuming, was their top target and he’s just signed for their rivals. Wanted him here at Spurs but I gotta feeling we may get Rabiot.
I’m completely out of the loop on our latest transfer interests. The only thing I’ve seen is Grealish, which seems to be taking an eternity, despite how desperate Villa are for money. Less than a month until the new season. Hoping now the World Cup is over for most that we’ll see some movement.
Grealish is the only stern link at the moment, mate, so you’re not really out of the loop. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two in by the end of the week now. Hopefully we can shift some deadwood as well.
Not despite, because. The price gets smaller as HMRC get closer. Villa are not going to want a 15 pt. deduction to start the new season with.
Reading between the lines, I think we can rule out Alassane Plea joining: Seri's joined Fulham while Balotelli's flounced off to Marseilles, so the chances of them letting Plea leave as well as as close to nil as possible. In other news, youngster Jaden Brown has reportedly returned to the club after an unsuccessful trial at NEC Nijmegen.
