Southgate cost us. Pipe him off for beating Sweden and Panama but his changes were just plain wrong. He's got us to a semi by playing nobody so congratulations because we will never ever get a better chance

Don't think he cares, he's already having a nice cigarette after the piping you gave him over the quarters.

That reminds me of the time Sunderland were relegated by a man in a bra playing for lowly Burton....

I don't know why we wilted in the second half of normal time but boy we sure did. Croatia were shellshocked after the first twenty five minutes, they thought they were on the way out, the faces on some of their players including Moderic said it all. To let them back in the game in the second half was criminal, they were there for the taking. A second goal for us was crucial, we would have won it had we got it. I could go on but overall, that was a hue disappointment.

Carrying Alli and Sterling has cost us too much in the end. It was all very nice from Gareth but loyalty has its limitations, ultimately a lack of international quality will catch up with you. All we missed out on was the opportunity to get beat in the final.

    This all day long.

Alli was hopeless most of the tournament, looked unfit and at times not interested. I don't understand why Gareth stuck with him for all the games he did. He did nothing of any note yesterday.

Sterling - played 6, 0 goals, 0 assists. Always misplaced the final ball. Created nothing at all all world cup..... apart from space for no one in particular to run into.

    Most other players did ok.

BUT why did we play long balls all the match yesterday???

At half time I thought, yes, play like this in the Final and we could give France a real game. That all changed in the second half. I would add Lingard to Alli and Sterling, we just can't afford to have all three playing at once, they do not retain or use possession good enough.

The long ball in the first half terrified them. The second half they lapped them all up.

Gareth was in a no win situation, because if he had played a fresh team and we lost he would have been criticised for not playing a winning team, as it is he stuck with the same 11 and he'll get stick for not changing.

I think his regret will be not trusting the squad, with Kane, Alli, Henderson, Sterling, Lingard and Young in particular looking extremely leggy in the second half vs Sweden, and from 20 minutes on against Croatia last night.

Croatia must have superhuman powers, a great recovery regime, superb doping, or else be far superior in terms of talent, to have played more football with the same 10/11 players, and still be fresher after 120 minutes. Yet it would be wrong to say that they can do it, so we can keep the same 11, because Football management is about managing your players, and our players looked knackered.

That's Southgate's regret to have, it can't be and shouldn't be ours because we don't have heart rate monitors, heat maps, an insight into the mental state of the players etc.

Overall, I think the team did well to reach a semi. The path was easy, but we ground out the results and that's a big plus. By the time the next world cup comes along, we need to have developed a world class midfield player to open up chances in a packed defence (maybe Foden), and a top class holding midfielder to make the team tick.

I can’t stop laughing this morning. I ended last night and woke up this morning proud. I can’t stop laughing at the saddos who are having a go and/or somehow trying to blame Sterling.

It’s got to be some kind of negative ****ty world they live in. Looking at our junior sides and the age of this side, we will get close again over the coming years. Some of the missing ingredients are coming through. Foden is one but there are quite a few. They’ve come through winning. Hopefully their clubs (the big clubs) show a bit of faith or they have sense to do a Sancho and bugger off abroad. I think we will win something in the next 10-12 years. This 23 and Southgate and his staff have set us back on the right path.

We're in real danger of repeating the Lampard/Gerrard era, and I mean that in the worst way possible. We have got to find a better structure than having two stick insects playing in CM.

The issue will remain with England that we always pick players from top teams, who only actually look good in top teams. There never seems to be an understanding from England that they will always look better with De Bruyne, Eriksen or Pogba playing with them - yet for England they have to actually BE De Bruyne, Eriksen or Pogba!

Lets hope this is just the start of the Southgate revival, he will learn a lot from this tournament. We've got some good talent coming through, the future is looking bright.

Not good enough last night, only ones to come out of the tournament with any real credit were Trippier, Maguire and Pickford.

Southgate's tactics last night were pretty shocking after half time and the lack of substitutions was so poor and it cost us last night - of that I have no doubt. The media have quoted him saying he didn't make subs as he couldn't see how to "stop the tide"... That's what ****ing subs would have done, slowed the play down, broken it up, injected fresh legs and we could have gone more defensive.

After 60 mins we should have gone 5-4-1 taken Sterling or Kane (who was ineffective the last two games) off and put Dier.
Alli was pretty abject as well would have taken him off for Loftus Cheek or Rashford.
Young for Rose should have been earlier.
