Right I'll make myself 100% clear, I don't rate Alan Smith as a football player, never have and never will. I have no interest in his personal life and I don't care that he played for Man Utd, I simply don't think he is or was a football player of any specific ability.
Now, I have taken a call from a connection I have with Leeds United, who assures me Mr Smith is at Thorp Arch today having a medical, with a view to him re-joiniing Leeds Utd. I simply don't want to believe this as this is not the player we need and if true it can only be Bates trying to get some of the anti-Bates people on his side. It will fail, and so will Smith.
If this is a load of bollox, I will happily come back on the forum and apologise, but I have this awful feeling it isn't.
We need defenders and we appear to have got a fecking waste of space former player, who is out of form, out of his depth and injury prone....you couldn't make it up! :steam:

I am for one would not be annoyed if he came back plays with passion & might be a good influence around the younger players given that he has largely never been in the press for any shennanigans & would be a decent ball winner in the middle of the park too

If he comes back my friend won't go to matches until he's gone. I can't allow that to happen. Also, Smith is a walking sicknote that will demand wages we can't afford. He can **** off.

We need centre midfielders. I wouldn't be particulary angry or happy if he came back. Would be decent back up to Howson/Clayton.

It is and for the record they didn't say what you have stated, they did however state that there was major issues within the board and that they would be resolved very soon, which unless you know differently, there are. What was stated was that one way or another Bates was either taking complete control and everyone else needed to shut up or he was walking, it could well be that they have all decided to shut up!
Anyway back to the topic of the post, Smith is pure and simple a signing to appease some of the Leeds supporters who appear to live in a world of everyone who plays professional football from Leeds is great and therefore must be great for the local football club, it's pathetic really and I hope most if not everyone sees through it, BATES OUT BATES OUT, BATES OUT......

Would he be any worse than some of our signings in the last couple of years?

If the lad has any fight left in him, he could have enough in him to spur us on and get us up.

What you stated in this topic was BS, as it wasn't the correct interpretation of what was previously written about the Leeds United board.

Hope he dies so we don't sign him.

That's a really bastardish thing to say, isn't it?

At the clubs they're contracted with. You need money to buy them first, you see, and Grayson doesn't have any of that. <ok>

Well to appease the fans, Smith will come and we lose Gradel, fecking joke and Smith needs to hear that from every Leeds fan, he's simply not good enough and neither is Grayson. ****E

Moronic, as per usual, from the club if this is true. Telling mistreated fans that you're going to mistreat them even more in an attempt to satisfy them. Negative plus negative makes lots of negative last time I checked, not positive. It's within the realms of conspiracy theory, but it's like Bates sold Gradel just to piss off the fans who hate him so, and has said he'd bring in this 100% divisive player just to do the same. Not that I'm totally convinced we are in for Smith after being privy to years of this persistent little bastard of a rumour.

He said our club should be annihilated in the 80s. Never underestimate, despite his 'I love Yorkshiremen because they're plain-speaking like me [har-de-har-de-har]' exterior, how much the man loathes Leeds United and its fans.
